From the Vintage Aviator Collection. Hood Aerodrome Masterton New Zealand

Saturday 21 January was the second of this summer’s The Vintage Aviator Ltd (TVAL) airshows at Masterton, named “Joyeux Noel” in honour of the 24hr cease-fire between the Allies and Germans on Christmas Day 1914 during the Great War.

TVAL had 3 new aircraft on display, a second Fokker D.VIII; a second Albatros D.Va; and an RE.8, (known affectionately as “Harry Tate” by the RFC.) Built by TVAL and the only example of its type flying anywhere in the world.

Both the RE.8 and the newly built Albatros D.Va will be going to the RAF Museum collection in the UK, but the second Fokker D.VIII will remain with TVAL.

We also had TVAL’s Omaka-based Bristol F.2b Fighter (reproduction) alongside the original Masterton-based example.

No personal connection, I just like this picture:

Here's something I got for my 4th birthday or christmas or something.  I ran across it tonight. The  tatter on corners was from my fingers as a kid. My nose was in that book a bunch.

Kinda want to  give the computer a cool down.  I finally  re installed my multiscannerinkjet sh8 and it works, after a whole ink cartrige of half page prints. Stay tuned for the inside covers.  They would make great wallpaper.

Still figuring out how to scan and stich together an image of the inside plates that  are clearly viewable.

First try is the inside cover.

Here's a row of Lockheed C-141 STARLIFTER'S at NORTON AFB in San Bernardino California. My father was a Load Master on these planes all through the Vietnam conflict,  1965 to 1973.  His service was from 1955 to 1977.  He retired as a Master Sergeant with a few awards, one being the AIR MEDAL with 4 OAK LEAF CLUSTERS. He had 5,000 flying hours in just the c-141 alone. He also flew in c-130's and c-123's in Vietnam also.

Take notice of the very first C-141 in the picture.  Tail number 60177.  That is the famous " HANOI TAXI " .  I had the pleasure to walk around inside of it when i was a kid before it became famous.   8)

Here's my father kneeling down in the middle in front of a C-123 in Veitnam in 1967.

  I miss my father...........
