Yet another problem found
« on: November 03, 2015, 01:24:41 am »
Hi All,

SO I dropped the bowl on number 4 carb and found the post that the float pin runs through to be snapped.  The previous owner looks to of used a waxed/plastic to wrap around it and hold it in place without catching the bowl.   But I don't want it moving and causing problems later down the road.

Can anyone advise if metal glue would work? Or would the fuel just melt anything like this away?

Here's something that I found but I've never used it before.

If I were you, I would seek someone locally who can micro weld it. Theres a guy here in the states that offers the service (on Services Offered section) but I appreciate shipping fees from the UK and back... Perhaps someone could also braze it?

I am not a fan of adhesives inside fuel environments.

Or hopefully you can find someone who's really good with a TIG welder. My brother in law who is awesome with a TIG repaired a broken float post from a 550 carb I had.

I also had one of the posts I broke on my carbs TIG welded by one of dad's friends. Good, permanent fix in my opinion if you can find someone to do it.

Good luck!

I sell just about every spare SOHC carb body.  All my spare bodies are already soda blasted clean.  All I need to know is the casting number you want and which # cylinder it is for.

Price is usually $40 SHIPPED.

cal,
You are the man.  I have a carb needing this from an extra set I have.  So I pulled up his info and was going to call him about sending him my carb tomorrow.
Turns out he's here in Dacula, GA in the Atlanta metro area.  May even be able to save myself the shipping and just deliver it to him!

LOL, well I've offered many times to buy you dinner if you would actually stop in Atlanta instead of jetting on through when you're on your way to/from Virginia.
