center stand hitting chain.....QUICK FIX!!!
« on: January 18, 2010, 12:03:12 PM »
Wel when I removed my 4 into 2 exhaustto install my 4 into 1  I noticed that the center stand was now hitting the chain. So it was off to the hardware store. I picked up a 3/4 pvc tee and two 7/8 hose clamps, and here's what I made...nothing fancy.

Cut a section out of the tee then I fit it over the rear brake drum bar and clamped it with the two hose clamps!!!
like I said nothing fancy...but it works and my exhaust covers it 100%.

Hope this helps others with the same problem!!!

Works fine, seems to be hidden by the megaphone.

FYI: When one buys a new 4-1, an L shaped bracket come with it that usually bolts to the rear passenger peg mount or the megahone mount and hangs down to where it contact the centerstand.

You gotta admire ingenuity, and its always good to see a new solution to a problem. But...the way you've painted that T piece suggests you intend to rely on it for a while, which I would respectfully suggest is a BAD idea. Plastics get brittle over time, and that will get added knocks and vibration from the ride. You do not want the stand to hit your chain when at speed, if it breaks your wheel could lock and the consequences of that don't bear thinking about. Do yourself a favour, and fabricate a steel bracket that you can bolt on or weld in there. Just my opinion.

Good point that centerstand retracts with a great deal of force, it will really smack that plastic T.

So it will last for a while, but keep an eye on it.
