Don't know how many knew about this, but I just saw it in the latest edition of Hot Rod Magazine:

2011 Trans Am Firebird (and, personally, I like IT better than the new  Camaro, that it's based off of)   WICKED!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I prefer this version Bill....

Either way, it's too bad Pontiac won't be around to see it come to fruition. :'(

Why oh why did they kill off Pontiac??? The G8 was stunning, this Firebird is beautiful.... If they had just eliminated all the crappy "clones" of other GM cars(and Daewoos) and kept the good stuff... Such a shame.

azuredesign AND cb750dude,   This is billed clearly as a
"Trans Am Firebird" , Not a Pontiac Trans Am Firebird. Kind of like when the Studebaker went under, the Avanti was was renamed the Avanti II and had Chevy (Corvette, I think) running gear.

Schmthaus, THAT is REALLY COOL as wel, to look like the 69' Trans Am, no doubt. Thanks for posting! ;)

IT was a court order as part of GMs bailout

The courts did not order closing Pontiac, the courts OKed it closing as part of the reorganization of the company.

The failure of GM provides me proof that corporate executives and boards of directors are not on the side of shareholders.  They operate for wall street, who operates on this quarter's magic number.

Don't get me started...

Nice looking car.

So they MAY actually make it... Nice!!! Not that I could(or would) get one... Next car I buy will be an Evo9. May just be me, but that is a whole lot of car for under 20k used!!! Got to ride in one with a customer, and I have NEVER been in a car faster than that, save a 880hp Hennesey Viper my buddy's dad had...

It's just a design exercise. to build one you have to cut up a new camaro.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Saab is, for all purposes dead. Konisegg the swedish super car builder was in the process of buying Saab but something happened and now saab will be gone by the end of 2010. too damn bad too, the Saab 900 was one of the best cars ever built in my opinion.

Thank you for the assist, I just couldn't seem to get the picture to post AND there are more of it in different colors on that page that the link leads to. ;)

I don't think we're going back into the name deal, I think we're all past that now. As time goes by, I suppose some definitions change. I mena, take "Nerf Bars" for example. Mention them to folk whose history goes back to the 50's and THEY think you are talking about custom built bumpers made from metal rod shaped to be bumpers on a custom car.
However, mention the "Nerf Bars" now days and younger folks think youare talking about tubular steps for pickup trucks and jeeps. Kinda hard to keep up. ;)
