Topic: Touring on a Trail 90

Maybe I have an obsession with touring on bikes that should not be tour'd on.

So lets say I get a whim to ride this thing across a state or five. I am not as familiar with this machine as my others but I am aware of their reputation. The bike sat since 81 and all I have done is fuel lines, carbs, battery and tires. 60 miles on the road so far and she is fine. 1600 miles on the clock.

I was curious what I should look out for with these. What likes to break, go bad, most likely to give me problems etc... on a longer haul. Also whats the legality of traveling roads with a small CC bike like this?

I came across that a while ago and was trying to find it again, thanks!

When I get a chance I will take it on a couple hundred mile run here and see how it fairs and how I feel after.

I had one that I put about 6,000 miles on. I lived in Tucson and I rode it everyday to work. On weekends up to 100 miles at a time. No reason it couldn't go on and on. Oil changes and chain lube would be the two weakest links. I put a set of fagged out CB750 shocks (IIRC, may have been CB500s or such) on it to hold more weight. It will vibrate the screws out of the heat shields over time. I'd use longer screws (so they have further to back out before they fall off) lock washers, too. I'd hesitate with the LockTite as you may want to get them off later. But the mild stuff would probably be OK. Check the other bolts and nuts periodically.

Thats about the worst.
