ICON Variant
« on: January 31, 2010, 07:08:17 PM »
Hey guys.  So it looks like it's getting close to new helmet time.  My HJC is about 3 years old now, so I'm starting to feel that it's time for a new one.  And I think I have what I want picked out.

The style and design may be controversial to some, but I feel it screams "me" and the new features are def. badass.  It's more money that I'd like to spend, but hey, "if you have a $10 head, get a $10 helmet!"

Thoughts on this new helmet to be released this week?

I had a visor like that on my nolan, and the wind resistance was.....awful.

well everywhere i've read says that the visor is rock solid with virtually no lift.  i'm looking forward to reading more inclusive tests once i'ts officially released, but the aerodynamics appear to be quite well designed...

The overhang thing looks like it would act like a wing, but if they windtunneled it maybe they are on to something. I would have to try it for myself at 100.

it does look like a lot of things, and the #1 one that comes to my mind is a fighter pilot's helmet and windscreen, i just LOVE the look of that visor!  the peripheral looks outstanding too, which is something i've always wanted since i first put a helmet on!

It is the bulges of the visor that make me think fly! :D Thought fighter pilot helmet is there too. It is a helmet from the United Fly Air Force!

i think it looks pretty #$%*in, check it out in the video.  granted they're on some supermotos n stuff at the beginning, i still think it's a badass helmet, and i HATE having to throw the hand up to block the sun down here in TX, i've always wanted a visor.  i even added a visor to my ski helmet because the same reason...

I wear sunglasses to take the sun out of the equation.

so do i, even polarized ones, but sometimes the sun can find a way right in where the glasses don't protect.  when i would ski, the goggles covered ALL around my eyes, but that visor was damn nice!  even when i was tucking and hitting 45-55 mph down a long screamer, i wouldn't have any lift problems.  apparently this helmet is wind tunnel designed to reduce lift at higher speeds, so i'm hoping its true!

i just can't wait for the shields to come out, either the mirror silver one of the mirror gold one, either would look sick on the matte black helmet...

I dunno, Icon is kinda known for their looks more than anything else, and this kinda applies.  Reminds of that neon green Speedfreak or whatever it's called.  Don't think it would look good on you while riding your classic bike.  If you're gonna spend $300, shouldn't it look okay no matter what bike you're riding, colors notwithstanding?

well i think the helmet looks good no matter what, but that's just me.  and this helmet is world certified, US, EUR, JPY and AUS, and through my research this is a good certification to have.

hey broshi, where are you located in the DFW?  i'm looking for people to ride with, especially ones with classic hondas!  wanna help on a build?   ;D ;D

haha, that's not the first post about halo i've seen on the variant!

i jsut got off the phone with a guy at icon, and he said that it meets or exceeds the snell safety labeling, that it is quiet on the road and that there's minimal lift from the visor up to 100!

then i found this thread of a guy whose had his hands on one too:

http://www.r6-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106261

so i hope to be purchasing asap!!!
