Original 750 finally off showroom floor.
« on: February 01, 2010, 03:18:45 PM »
If anyone is from the east end of Toronto they probably have seen the bikes in the showroom at Dicks Honda on Kingston Rd. One of them is a 76 CB750 Supersport and never been off the showroom floor. It has been there since before Dick closed the doors in about 1979 I think. Anyway, driving by there this morning I took a glance over to see it as I have for the last 34 years and there it was, gone. Anyone know if someone ponied up the purchase price plus the appreciation, or has Dick gone to the big dealership in the sky and someone is clearing the old stock out?

Where exactly is Dicks Honda on Kingston Road? Google finds nothing under that name. Are they still open for business? I would love to poke around in the shop.
Cheers,

Is this related? If so, follow the link at the bottom of the article, some interesting shots either way.

That looks like the place. I'm going for a drive tomorrow to peak through the windows and leave a note on the door. My broken japanese language skills may help me out a little.. ;) ;)

Back around 1969-70 or so I had my eye on a new CB450 he had in the window, I went in a few times but never did buy the 450,eventually bought most of my bikes at Sonic on Eglinton. Bill Sharpless was way more friendly and I was just a little taken by his daughter Toni. I never found Dick's Honda very comfortable.
Maybe the 750 was stolen...he's in his 80's by now, I think you'll only see the shop cleared after he passes away,if I still lived locally I'd be keeping my eye open...

A few of my friends bought thier bikes at Dicks. We used to buy some of our parts there in the early 70s. I remember a typical occasion of buying parts, oil filter etc. and  after paying I would forget to buy a washer and Dick would charge me the .07 cents plus tax, he was how should I put it, frugal. I have heard that  the Supersport has always been for sale but Dick always wanted that much more than what it was worth. Another intereasting story may be what parts are still there. I talked to a mechanic who apprenticed at Dicks just before closing and he said the basement was full of stuff. I also remember Sonic but they were Suzuki. My fathers old buisness partner rode trials with Bill Sharpless for a few years, I ended up getting a crated 72 185 through that affiliation, my first bike.

Just so you know that Dick is still alive and well.the bike in question has been sold to a private collector.the shop itself has been closed for years now.Dick rarely goes there these days.just so you like to know.
