I went out Friday night.  Clear, dry roads & no snow expected until later in the weekend - I couldn't resist.  Except that it was 21F, so I only lasted 1/2 hour.  But damn, riding in Buffalo in January!

Went out with a buddy last week, it was only +8 celcious when we left, which ain't bad for December in Canada. The  plan was a couple hours and home beore the sun and the temperature dropped. 100 clicks out of town his bike dies - takes us 3 hours in the dark to get it running. Drive home the temp is -8 celcious at 60 mph. My hands have never been so cold in my life. At one point I'm riding with my right hand under my ass and my left hand on the throttle, not a driving style I reccomend. Moral of the story never go riding with your buddy for his first ride on his newly acquired peice of %#%$ bike in the middle of a Canadian winter. I should have known it was going to be a disaster when his rear heat shield fell off about 20k into the ride. Lesson learned.

Duly noted.   But it's important to point out that it's fine to do so with someone you don't like, because you can leave his ass behind when his piece of #$%* falls apart. ;)  Just make sure he doesn't know where you live.

And make sure that YOUR POS isn't gonna fall apart, because you don't want him leaving your ass (or any other part of your anatomy) behind, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

The only POS I own or would ever take out on the road is my car, because if it falls apart at least I can sleep inside of it! ;D

That's right Gordy, but our bikes are all 30+ years old, so no guarantees that they'll survive a trip without some drama, particularly in freezing weather. Best ride with your friends, just in case your highly desireable classic suddenly breaks down in the middle of nowhere to instantly transform into a POS, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

You've only got to look at my rapidly eroding Karma points to see that you're not alone in that opinion mate, ha ha! Not trying to piss you off though, just pointing out that regardless how "cherry" your bike is, 30 year old bikes can crap out at the worst possible moments, so you're better riding with friends who will help you out, than with guys who will leave you to freeze on the side of the road? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Hey Jim, my K1 was built in 1971, so that makes it 35 years old? I re-checked my numbers with my chinese calculator, and it still came to that? You better open the garage door mate, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well, the weather in SE Mich. isn't quite that warm, but seems we had our winter between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Cold as h$ll and 28 in. of snow. Since Christmas, not much of anything, either low temps or snow. I have seen a couple of riders, but mid-thirties still not for me. Of course, I've probably put the jinx on the milder weather now.  ;)
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

In my experience with "classic" cars & motorcycles, the best thing you can carry with you
is a fully charged cell phone with a good towing company's number in it ! No matter how well
the Car/Truck/Motorcycle is running , it is a machine, and things go wrong.

The better care that is taken , the less chance you have of failure, but still , things happen.....
