For that matter, it might be possible to get a wrench in there to undo the nuts that hold the latch in place.

A 1/4" ratchet will do the trick to remove the two nuts that hold the latch to the seat pan, I've done this twice on parts bikes.

PM sent about keys and ignition switch...Don't wreck the seat lock!

The nuts..?? I thot they were countersunk Phillips..

 maybe I am thginking wrong year..

Yeah, there are countersunk phillips on the frame.  The nuts are on the bottom of the seat on the other half of the lock.
