I'd say you probably smelled like french fries rather than a baked potato. Where was the oil coming from??? Boy, that original tank sure did let you down....those are some big bubbles. I'm very surprised you didn't break through the surface when you were sanding the tank for paint. As a side bar....straighten out those rear turnsignals for Christsakes!!

Picky, picky, picky! Ha ha, well the engine will have to come out for some serious surgery Mike, have you got a good F2 head (not that such a thing ever came out of the factory.....) that you can "massage' for me? I made several errors (in hindsight, of course) when I originally rebuilt it, and so I will need to strip the engine completely to remediate these faults.
I need to strip the bottom end, due to using the incorrect sealant for the case flanges, (Loctite 515 rather than 518, although next time I'll use threebond, and damn the torpedoes!) I need to replace the "K" cylinder block with a proper F2 cylinder block due to oiling issues pointed out by Karl Gray a year or two ago, (where is Karl?) and this is probably the cause of the oil leak I experienced yesterday, the head is cause for concern aslo as there are too many "rattles" probably caused by worn out valve guides.
Finally, I need to repaint the top crankcase, as the industrial strength fuel additive that I used to take the moisture out of the tank and remove any rust (which it did so well it ate holes in my tank!) dribbled over the paintwork, immediately bubbling all my hard work! Oh well, wisdom in hindsight and all that, the trouble is that the "racer" project suffers every time my other bikes experience a set-back like this. Maybe I should dump the F2 engine in a dark corner of my garage and assemble the racer engine, and use the F2 as a "testbed" until I've finished the racer's frame mods? Hmmmnnnnn......... Cheers, Terry.
