And a couple more...............
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I'd say you probably smelled like french fries rather than a baked potato. Where was the oil coming from??? Boy, that original tank sure did let you down....those are some big bubbles. I'm very surprised you didn't break through the surface when you were sanding the tank for paint. As a side bar....straighten out those rear turnsignals for Christsakes!!  :D ;)

Well those look mighty nice. So I think I am going to try and score some here soon.
Thank you for your hard work and personal sacrifice! your leg should be ok since it did not get burned off right away by the oil!

Picky, picky, picky! Ha ha, well the engine will have to come out for some serious surgery Mike, have you got a good F2 head (not that such a thing ever came out of the factory.....) that you can "massage' for me? I made several errors (in hindsight, of course) when I originally rebuilt it, and so I will need to strip the engine completely to remediate these faults.

I need to strip the bottom end, due to using the incorrect sealant for the case flanges, (Loctite 515 rather than 518, although next time I'll use threebond, and damn the torpedoes!) I need to replace the "K" cylinder block with a proper F2 cylinder block due to oiling issues pointed out by Karl Gray a year or two ago, (where is Karl?) and this is probably the cause of the oil leak I experienced yesterday, the head is cause for concern aslo as there are too many "rattles" probably caused by worn out valve guides.

Finally, I need to repaint the top crankcase, as the industrial strength fuel additive that I used to take the moisture out of the tank and remove any rust (which it did so well it ate holes in my tank!) dribbled over the paintwork, immediately bubbling all my hard work! Oh well, wisdom in hindsight and all that, the trouble is that the "racer" project suffers every time my other bikes experience a set-back like this. Maybe I should dump the F2 engine in a dark corner of my garage and assemble the racer engine, and use the F2 as a "testbed" until I've finished the racer's frame mods? Hmmmnnnnn......... Cheers, Terry. ;D

I feel alot better knowing an "expert" screwed up a topend job, and it just isn't dum me.  Miss torqued one head bolt and while pushing the engine hard popped the high pressure o-ring out the side.  Lots of smoke and a wet leg like a dog though it was a fire hydrent. ;D

Just send me the F2 and I'll fix it up so you can ride any time your in the Maritimes ;D, I'll keep it well riden when you not ;D

There's one on Ebay at the moment James, going very cheap! The current high bid doesn't even cover material costs, boohoo! Take a walk on the wild side mate, that "Netscrounger" is a top bloke, and his Koolers are the coolest, ha ha! ;D

Terry, I don't have an F2 head BUTTTTTT I just picked up a mint 78 K head that would work perfectly with the K barrels on the bike now. Oh....I forgot- you'd need an 836 kit too.  8) ;)

Carbs and intake boots (insulators) are the same on the K8 and F2. I imagine the airbox is as well (Sean would know). I don't see why the F2 cam wouldn't work- it just has a little more lift. I'd put in a megacycle cam in the thing nephew. ;)

Sooo, what sort of $$$ are we talking for that tatty ol' head, Unky mike? I can't afford a big bore kit right now, but i've got a new 3rd oversize piston kit with new rings, wrist pins etc, so that might have to do me, but with the F2 cam it should go ok? Cheers, your favourite nephew, Terry. ;D

Let me take the valves out and check it over. I just got it yesterday. I assume you want a little port work too?? It would work OK with 3rd over pistons (as long as they are K pistons) and the F2 cam. I'll email you sir.

G'Day CBJ, just contact him mate, he'll sell you a pair for 50 bucks, and I wouldn't bother trying to haggle further, he knows he can sell them for 50, and 50 bucks is bloody cheap, geez, I might buy some more for future bikes, ha ha! Cheers, Terry (Ebay-aholic)  ;D

Are you worried about extra weight or interference with the spring action?

There are three different weight springs available to compensate for extra poundage.

They don't have the spring shields that the Cb550s have prior to 77, so soft bags will need a "bag stay" to keep them from being pinched during the springing action.  However, one could argue that even with the spring shields, the soft bags shouldn't rest on the shocks anyway.  They still move around a bit and will rub and wear on each other.

I have hard bags, (yes I left my self wide open for smart remarks) plus I would install the shields from my shocks, 74.  I only weigh 125lbs, but some of the computers I carry on the rack can go up to 200lbs.  That and we have some of the worst roads on the east coast.
