As far as ITS is concerened, there is a fellow on another forum from WI and he just went though them. He says he payed $235 and got a Vermont plate and registration, but no title. He's peeved cause that's not good enough to get a title in WI so he basically wasted his money.

I used ITS for a '77 kawi I had.  Took about a month & I got a Maryland plate & registration, sold the bike so I don't know what the new owner had to do to get it registered here in wa. state.  The trick is to use them for bikes older than '73 or '74- that way it is old enough you will get a title & Bill of Sale, no plate.  You can then take the title to the DMV to register it.

Yeah for older than 73 or 74 they don't issue titles in NY -- just "transferrable registrations" so for my 1975 400f, I have a title, but my 1972 Dodge Dart has no title. If the CB350F has a build date of 11/72, would it be considered a 72 or a 73 model? There may be a big difference there from the DMV point of view.

Most places i have taken bikes too over the years to register had no clue about bikes at all, tell them that the build date is the year model and the 73's were different and you will probably get away with it...

The key here will be to stay away from the DMV branches here in the city and go to a little branch office upstate. The people there are actually nice and want to help.

Sorry to run in your parade buddy. By the pictures, it looks pretty much like my CB350twin did when I bought it. It ended up becoming a moneypit. There was a "point of no return" in which I had spent so much time and money, that the only way out was finishing the restoration.

If I were you, I would do the minimum -spend the minimum- to make it roadworthy and ride it like you stole it.

It's actually snowing heavily on my parade today, so bundle up if you're gonna run in it.

Nobody said I was looking to restore this thing to new condition. All the parts are there and it's luckily not very rusty. It's a nice bike that sat directly in the elements for about four or five years in a parking lot under a tree. If there's no internal engine trauma (or even if there is) it probably won't take much to get it running. I believe in riding stock(ish) bikes that look obviously used and run very well -- I appreciate all the shiny cafes and choppers and restorations, but that's not me. (Maybe one day when I have a garage and don't live in a grimy city.)

It all depends on the title, of course. I heard some encouraging words from a guy who got an abandoned 1971 dodge and ended up with a clear conscience that it wasn't stolen and a current registration.

One of my CB450's has no title.  My father lives in Mississippi and I've heard getting a title is pretty easy there, I'm about to find out.

From what I understand you call an insurance agent, give them the bill of sale and VIN, then they do a search and issue a bonded title...

I can't find much official mention of this process on and MS gov. websites...but I'm going to send the documents down there and cross my fingers.

I think his title stuff needs to go to something more like the 9/10th's rule.  Nobody has titls for these old bikes  it seems.

The one I have agreed to purchase was last tagged in NH. The owner is the original owner. He has no title. It is inoperable  condition.

Simple, apply for a new title , right?

Forms on intenet, simple.
http://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/dmv/forms.html#title

Application for lost title , cool, perfect!.
http://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/dmv/forms/tdmv18.pdf

Instruction 3:
If the vehicle is 15 years old or older, it is exempt and noduplicate title can be issued.

I wish  knew. I am trying to title it in another state. They tell me to to dothe abandoned property  route, or get a court order from a judge.

This is something the  legislatures need to be working on instead of whatever they are doing. I'm tired of things being so beauraucratic so as to be nearly impossible.

I have had an idea that you could purposely assemble a bike with the worst parts rusty forks, leaky tank, etc. whatever you can  make to like a whole bike. Get it impounded, lt them do the title paperwork Then go buy it at  auction  for $10 bucks and get the $150  worth of paperwork an a title for the frame. Then re-assemble  your running bike with title with correct frame numbers.

AHA!

Maybe this is what it takes for  New Hamshire. A report of sale or transfer of non-titled vehicle form.

Not going to argue. Taking stuff out of the trash is technically stealing, I suppose. But I'm clearing my conscience by knowing that I saved it from the trash man and that I'm going to great lengths to determine whether the person that abandoned it wants it back or whether it was stolen and the original owner wants it back.

From one dope bust case:

Although Greenwood had hidden the trash from view by putting in opaque plastic bags and expected it to be on the street only a short time before it would be taken to the dump, the Court believed it to be “common knowledge” that garbage at the side of the street is “readily accessible to animals, children, scavengers, snoops, and other members of the public.” Moreover, Greenwood had left the trash there expressly so that the trash collector, a stranger, could take it. Quoting Katz v. United States, the court concluded that "[w]hat a person knowingly exposes to the public, even in his own home or office, is not a subject of Fourth Amendment protection."

I don't know, you have a rare opportunity here in that you have a vehicle that can't be traced back to you.  Maybe you could get yourself a black cape and cowl and live out your Batman fantasies as you rid Gothem of crime!

Or you could use it to commit your own crimes.  Even go so far as to paint one side red and the other green for conflicting eyewitness reports.

Seriously though, I hope the burocrazies are kind to you as you get it legal.

I applaud your honesty!  You could probably put a price on the bike's value.  Your integrity, however, is priceless.

New Hampshire doesn't require titles for stuff that old.  IMO, that's how it should be.  A bill of sale will get you new registration and plate, which have to be renewed every year.  We need inspections every year too.

Why can't you just drive over the border and reg your vehicles then drive back?
New Zealand being an island we have no borders with anyone so the same rules apply all over.
So if you reg your vehicle in another state, it doesn't count in your area?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

In OZ you have to live in the state you register it in, it may be similar in the States.
