horrifying, almost debilitating screaming cold sweaty nightmares. i've been having some truly horrific nightmares the past week or so, either something with Hamish or re-living over and over and over and over again, seeing my then fiancee stomped to death by an elephant. i actually pissed all over the bed and myself a few nights ago. fortunately it was a 30 year old twin mattress. my wife hasnt been able to sleep in the same bed with me for nearly 3 years now because of the nightmares, though in the past week they have gotten aa whole hell of alot worse. i gave my wife my pistol and swords and battleaxe and asked her to bring the stuff to a friend or neighbors house, the idea being i cant get a hold of them in my sleep. i woke up monday night from a nightmare holding a loaded .45 pistol. even in the grips of such a nightmare i still had the safety on and my finger outside the trigger guard, but that was just way too close for comfort. an SCA friend suggested a very strong catnip/spearmint tea that i brew up fresh and it worked better than any chemical i've tried. i actually slept away a good part of the day without even a dream. between the bad news about Hamish and then my following the story of the trainer at sea world being killed by an animal she'd worked with for years (exactly how my first fiancee was killed, she was an elephant keeper at lowry park zoo in tampa and i saw the whole horrifying event happen)

•July 1993: An Asian elephant named Tillie attacks and kills Charlotte Torre, one of its handlers. The zoo gets rid of Tillie and its other elephant.

theres a memorial at the zoo in her memory i'm told, i havent been able to bring myself to go back to the zoo, i havent set foot on the property there since the day she was killed, i was a docent/volunteer at the zoo, thats where charlotte and i met. anyways thats the whole ugly story. i'm going to try and get some more sleep now, until this afternoon, i'd slept 3 hours since monday at 9AM

catnip tea, whod have thought it. i have several patches of the stuff in my flower beds, right along with the mint.

Holy crap Buck, you might want to talk to a sleep specialist about those night terrors if they persist.

Or take a few huge bong hits before you go to sleep, that should knock out any dreams of any kind.

I guess it's not just for cats anymore.  Good find B-man!  And wise move with the implements of destruction too.

A former coworker years ago was suddenly having horrible nightmares for nearly a month.  It turned out that his 'girlfriend' had a habit of... shall we say 'towel-drying' him after his shower each morning... one sunny day during lunch he took off his shirt to get some sun...there were four nicotine patches on his back that he had no knowledge of.  Needless to say he went home and moved out as quickly and quietly as he could!

When I was stationed at Groom Lake a lot of guys were having those issues including me. Due to what we were doing there was a concern about sleep deprivation and we would have been grounded. No chemicals were allowed.  Through the grapevine we learned about a shrink in Vegas that did hypno therapy. After four sessions eight out of ten of us got relief, two were discharged. It was guided visualization. We went to sleep visualizing a story we make up and get our minds in that place. I still use it every night and it works. It is clear you need help beyond chemical.

There is a newer therapy for people that have be traumatized by an event. It involves forcing you to relive the event and using a chemical to neutralize adrenaline. It somehow breaks the cycle. Train operators than have run people over are using it now.
Dedicated to Sgt. Howard Bruckner 1950 - 1969. KIA LONG KHANH.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

as bad as the pain is getting to be i think i took the past oxycodone i'm going to take. i had terrifying nightmares for 2 years after what happened at the zoo, just in the last year or so have i been able to walk past and look at the elephants at our local zoo, what finallly made me do it was that i knew full well that Charlotte wouldnt have wanted me to blame the elephant, her last words were "dont hurt tilly" it's just in the past week and a half or so that i've had mulitple nightmares every night. i didnt sleep more than an hour in 24 from monday at 9am till this afternoon because of the fear of having another one. i'm guessing that the horrible news about my cat Hamish and then all the coverage about that trainer at seaworld combined with a lack of sleep lately finally did me in. i wish i could find some decent weed and just flush the narcotics but i have no sources whatsoever here. i tried taking ibuprofen this morning (not really supposed to take it) and though my neck feels better, my gut feels like theres icepicks stabbing into me. the catnip tea seems to help me get a little more sleep with no nightmares. i'm about to head off to sleep in a few, drinking a giant mug of 'nip and spearmint tea now with some honey from a friends bees and a little fresh lime squeezed in. i call it "floaty tea" because it really does make you feel a little weightless  :D well catch you fine folks in the morning.

Jumpin' jeebers Jeff! I don't know if you've posted this about your fiancee before but I can't imagine what you've gone/are going through. I'm glad that you've had the sense of mind to put your weapons out of your reach until this all passes. My heart goes out to you and your wife and I hope that you're able to come to some type of closure soon. I'm going to check out that floaty tea concoction too.  ;)

Best Regards, Mike

Your in the SCA, and you can't find a supplier? Come, come man, you aren't looking hard enough. I know Rolling Thunder carried enough ganja to tranq a battalion. My advice, just hit up one of the after fight bonfire parties and ask the guy with the jungle juice, should line you up in no time.

Sorry to hear your woes, though. Can't even begin to imagine...

Cot, or air-mattress, don't fight just party... I haven't fought since the Navy made me quit. >:( But, now that the world is finally settling out, I plan on de-rusting what is left of my armor. Then I'll see if I can remember why I thought it was so fun to go home with cracked ribs every coupla weeks... They let you joust on the east coast? It was always forbidden over here...

Mine was all scrounged hockey gear with hand hammered streetsign coverings, so there! ;D Actually there was a little kydex (sp?) thrown in as well... I think the only things that I really paid anything for (and have left) was my (now rusted to hell) helm and my spauldrons. But I was on the field when I was 16 (pretending to be 18) and had virtually no benefactors. I think my dad watched me fight once, and that was only after he heard that the SCA was full of trampy exhibitionist women. To complete the look I hand sewed a rag surcoat, got a lot of laughs. Until I got embarrassed by a knight, and went knight hunting. Was at my first war, and was asked to spar with a guy on the side lines. I agreed, and he ass wrapped me about 10 times out of 12 rounds (I won the other two). After was all said and done, my friend asked why I didn't let it go at one or two rounds, as the guy was a knight "dontcha know?". I had no idea that there was such a thing, let alone that I was fighting one. Found out a couple hours later that that Sir asswad was laughing about how the vagabond wouldn't be able to sit for a while. So I sought out and took down every white belt I could find over the last three broken field battles. Somebody was keeping count, and later informed me that I racked up 16 knight kills. All with a buckler and hand axe. Got me a little baronial promotion, and a snuggle with some little cutie...
