I've decided to sell the 550 (posted in the for sale section and on craigslist) so that I can lose money on it to dump money into the 750KO and someday lose money on that.  :P
Meanwhile, parts are coming in: new fork caps (expensive!) and the new steering step cap and washer. I just had to share this photo of the original and the new:

I've made a lot of progress and the 550 may be sold tomorrow night, supplying the funds I need to continue with the KO. I finished rebuilding the shock and bought shiny new caps to replace the pitted ones. However, I don't know if the boots are on upside down. They have a wide section on the bottom or is it the top. Can anyone tell me?

I have been really bad about shooting photos and posting, but I've been ordering hundreds of washers, bolts and various parts from Honda Direct and other sources. The tank and other parts are at a paint shop.

Assume you refer to the rubber front fork boots. These have a more tapered end that u just pull taught over the fork bottom end cover - so yes the wider lip is the top which goes in/under the mounting ring on the base of your fork ears.

My painter called yesterday. All of the prep work is done and they were supposed to paint everything Candy Gold yesterday. He called to ask whether I wanted the "safety- wear a helmet" stick under the clear coat or on top. Because I can't recall whether the stick goes above or below the gas cap, I told him I will apply the sticker later. Anyone have a photo of where it goes? I want it period correct. He does amazing work. Been painting for 40-plus years. Will post photos when the parts are ready.

Still looking for two clips for my float bowls. Maybe have them fabricated?

Great Thread............I just got caught up!  Clearcoat over the decals.

I'll look at my stash............maybe have some carbbowl clips.

Did you sell the over-sized pistons and cylinders to 754?

Take a look at the current build on Sandcast #97

I just sold my 6/70 build K0 chasis but kept the motor.  Curious........does your motor have 9 or 10 screws on the clutch cover?  Your head looks like a K1 and so does mine.

I am reinstalling the boots so they aren't upside down.

I think my painter may have already clearcoated, but I will call him on Monday.

I just counted the screws on the clutch cover and there are 10. Is this significant?

I still have the cylinder head, the four pistons and the piston pins. The head is in beautiful shape but the pistons will need new rings. Don't really have plans for them, so I may list them (and a 550 tank I don't need) on the for sale section of this site.

The clutch-cover count only confirms that HONDA was already using K1 motor cases at the the end of the K0 production. It makes one wonder how many 'square' oil tanks and side-covers were tossed.......or did they just change the ID plate to K1 when they started using the new design?

I wanted to share pictures of my new tail light. Got a good deal on the whole complete package - lens, backing plate and innards for $30.
The old one was faded, hazy and rusty.

Got a pile of parts in the mail yesterday and it felt like Christmas came a little early: washers, bolts, fusebox, headlight rim, points cover, master cylinder kit and on and on. My new grab handle came in the other day as well.



Also painted the arm that hold the front brake on:


Are my boots on upside down? See how wide it is at the bottom?

It is always big fun when you get a package with the disered parts. Where did the parts come from? DSS?

The rubbers are mounted in the right way. Did you have the right part numbers?

Just wanted to point out that your brake rod is pointing in the wrong direction.  Needs to be fliped 180 degrees.
It's probably just hanging loose for now as it doesn't look like it is connected to anything. Just thought I would mention.  But I am sure you are already aware as you seem very knowledgeable Great build, just a beautiful bike.

I addition: the lever of the brake rod has to point forward, in front of the swing arm axle

In response to the brake arm photo, it is indeed just hanging loose. I have the back end suspended to the frame with a twistee so I won't keep tripping over it. I learned from Mark B.'s sandcast thread to install it first before installing the swingarm.

The bulk of my parts are coming from Honda Direct. Their prices are usually lower than Ebay stuff and when they're not cheaper you can still save money by buying a bunch of stuff and paying cheaper shipping than on an individual ebay part.

I am rebuilding the master cylinder this weekend. Anyone have a detailed photo of a KO master cylinder so I can see how much polishing I should do?

The float-bowl clips for the K0 carbs with the 1-4 cable are the same as used on the 250 and 305 twin carbs.  I have spares if you need them.

So I finally got that nasty circlip out and rebuilt the master cylinder in short order. I am missing a piece on the bottom of the handle. See my post in the bike discussion thread. Maybe someone has the two little pieces that I need?

The piece on the bottom that is held in by a flat piece of metal. However, there were a number of excellent solutions on my bike thread. This site is like some kind of mystical oracle.

I got the call I've been waiting for. My parts are finished at the painter's and I picked them up during my lunch break. They charged me $260, which I thought was more than fair. I also snapped a photo of the 70 K1 that was attached to the back of an RV near the paint shop. I left a note on the bike offering to buy it, but I bet many others before me have done the same....

I got the fork ears on, but I can't get those rubber boots on. Any tricks I should know about?
