New clutch cable adjustment.
« on: January 18, 2006, 03:51:20 AM »
Just fitted a new clutch cable (Yeah I know I was going to do it before Christmas but its cold out there and time off has been scarce) and my newbie question is this.

Should I be able to turn the back wheel with the engine in gear and the clutch lever pulled?
Thought I would try that first before turning the engine (Battery charging at the moment anyway).

I have checked to make sure the marks on the actuating arm and the engine side cover are aligned and set the cable adjusters so that there is about 10-20mm of freeplay at the clutch lever end. I slipped her into first and with the lever pulled the back wheel will not turn. I have not touched the clutch adjuster on the engine cover, all I've done is change the cable.

Gratreful for any input folks.

PS I'm working on the principal that has already been stated on this site that 'The only stupid question is the one that wasn't asked'.

Cheers

With the engine cold and the oil still thick, there could be enough drag even with a correctly adjusted clutch to make it difficult to turn the back wheel by hand.

Thanks OB you were right. I was perhaps a little too impatient too get the recharged battery on and try it properly. Battery of the charger this am and quick run this aft. All working fine. New cable is sooo slick. It was great too get out a run too. Roads were wet  >:( but about 10 degrees - lovely and warm for the time of year.
