Here's a pic of what I had to do to finally get it right. The right side bracket mount holes on the forks are offset slightly. With the fender bracket in place, the caliper mounts still might not be centered properly. I had to use nuts as spacers after some serious trial & error. It's a little hard to explain but what really helped me was Randy's Cycle blog about the same issue. Here's a link: Hope it helps. See entry #19

Thanks for all the brake help....I think I have it sorted....

This just arrived on my desk!

I'll find out tonight...but I hope that it works with my fork boots...don't really see why it wouldn't...excited!

I think stainless SpeedBleeders should arrive this afternoon...Happy Canada Day indeed!

I have the same Tarozzi stabilizer on my CB. It probably was one of the best investments I made and now i'm digging into turns with confidence.

Nice, I just got mine last week and sent it to the powdercoater. That is a weird coating whatever it is.

Good bye caliper paint...but I think I finally got them not leaking...the stock side is still dragging and I will adjust it/figure it out soon...

Planning on removing the stock fender mount and using the new brace as an anchor point for the fiberglass fender

This is how much its leaking. I think out of the head gasket...I need to tighten it down more...but to do so I need to take off the tank and my fingers still have not recovered from putting the fuel line ON the petcock...

I know, These brake calipers can be tricky. I made the mistake of first using a 1976 CB rear caliper with dual piston. It froze so tight I was stuck on the side of the road. Good thing I was close to a parking lot. These CB brake systems can be tricky ...even after rebuilding.

More break in/test driving...

It's is sloppy getting into 5th. Perfect in all other gears. But it takes a hard up click and sometimes two before it wants to stay in 5th.

Beginning to think my breaks are leaking inside at the piston seal. I reused both seals. Guess I'll order two and get them in there.

My black-bomber speedo and tach appear to be basically useless

Yikes! $17.02 for a brake piston seal at BikeBandit?!!

Anybody have a less expensive source or is that the going rate?

(will get googling)

You only save money if the cheaper part actually works.  If you find one for $5 and it doesn't seal right, then you're out $22.02 instead of $17.02.

If you can get the OEM brake seal parts from BikeBandit, DO IT!  They won't be around forever.  An OEM Honda m/c reservoir assembly for my bike was about $100, my mechanic found an aftermarket setup for $50.  You can guess the rest.
Life is precious: wear your f'n helmet!
There's nothing more expensive than a free bike...
FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

Score! I already bought two seals and forgot I had them!

Any caliper rebuild tips? Do I need to soak the seals or something? I'll get searching...

ideally you should use brake assembly lube on the seal and in where the seal goes. I have Mckay brand and its probably 40 years old. you can find some online I think. its supposed to create a barrier only on the seal so nothing water based can get sucked in by the dot 3 or dot 4 fluid.

Appears to be some heated debate about this stuff....

From what I have read this seems to be the stuff:

http://www.airosol.com/50600.html

Just enough brake assembly lube to get the rings slid into place. And a light finger coating on the side contacting the piston.  Then slide in your piston.
Dow high vacuum grease on the inside edge and sides of your brake pad only.  It's to keep out moisture.

Not at all trying to influence, but I never had a front fender on mine and I don't miss it one bit. I thought I would be catching rocks and pebbles but it turned out not to be the case. My rear fender isn't there either, but I did use the hard plastic inner cover to protect my electrical since it was already molded and made for the frame.("78 CB750f") Worked perfect without sacrificing the look I was trying to achieve.

Great build, Now you need road time.. 8)

Thanks a bunch. It was a fun winter project. Started with just a frame and built my way out. I was building my CB as you were building yours. Overall, I was most surprised by the handling on these bikes. This is my first vintage bike( I'm used to riding the crotch rockets but those days are over) and it's a keeper. This is a warm summer day bike. Just give me some open road and a destination and I'm good 2 go.....then again, who needs a destination.

I just got rid of one extra cable for a cleaner look. I picked up a Koso digital speedo. It's way more accurate than the aftermarket gauge.

I am debating on going fenderless as well.
