Yep, I was on my way to go take care of my Dad AND pick up Joey and next thing I knew, a Ford Ranger stopped in front of me and I couldn't stop fast enough. I hit that sucker in the rear! Only thing it did to HIS little truck was to turn the bumper down some and put a small (about an inch long) shallow crease in his tailgate. The GTX now has a bent up front bumper, the body piece that connects the front fenders together and runs between the grille and the bumper, the right fender has some damage on the front and some slight buckling on the side. If that's not bad enough, the young guy I hit was very congenial at the scene, showed concern about my car being damaged and said absolutely nothing about ANY physical damage to himself. THEN, when I called to report the accident, I was told that He is claiming physical injury. He's a young guy full time college student and seemed so concerned about the car and NEVER said a word about any pain to himself OR about the sudden jolt from the accident. So NOW, I can't do ANYTHING to fix the car, until the insurance investigators come and take pictures of the car. Also, there were NO citations given at the scene and nothing was said about any. I've not been involved in many accidents over the years and it's been a long time since the last one. I'm just SO P.O.'d about this whole thing. It just hurts ME to see the car in that shape. :-\ This is ALL I needed, on top of everything else!

Dude this is the least of your worries. The insurance company will take care of it. You have collision coverage I assume? It'll be all gravey. As long as everyone is okay, I hope that jerk off kid is actually hurt though, the little turd.

Be awfully hard to prove injury without a trip to the emergency room.

Bill, I'm sorry to hear of this on top of everything else. At least you are ok, and as everyone has pointed out, that's what insurance is for.

I hope things start to improve for you.

Sorry to hear this Bill.  Maybe the guy is just trying to cash in but it is also possible in a rear end hit to suffer some degree of whiplash.  I was rear ended in a low speed crash years ago and felt fine for a next few hours but in the end I spent the next six months making regular trips to the chiropractor and have a minor permanent loss of full movement in my neck.

Man, I posted this and then, later I tried to get on and haven't been able to, til now!

I'm fine, except for having to look at the GTX AND not being able to do anything with it until the Insurance investigator sees the car and takes pictures. THAT #@%* Kid, wasn't hurting when we were there at the scene. I THINK he (being a "Full Time Student" just thought he saw an opportunity just to get some bucks, that's all. IF he went to the emergency room, he went AFTER we finished with the cop. If I'd have been in the '06 Grand Caravan, I don't believe I'd have hit him (with the 4wheel disc brakes AND ABS too!

I'd been told by several here, that I needed to upgrade to disc on the front, at least. Point taken. IF I can get to where I can, I might even consider disc in the rear as well.

I just hope this kid wasn't stupid enough to be part of a scheme to have done this on purpose. I don't think he did, but the question was brought up over on the GPMM (Great Plainz Modern Mopars) forums. Anyway, I feel like my insurance company, USAA, will get to the bottom of this.

Not having ever been in a situation like this before (can you believe it?), I AM a bit nervous.

I hear ya tramp, just ME seeing it, is bad enough. ;) It's NOT funny about this, but, the way the front end looks now, it looks like a MOUTH that is poised to take a bite out of That FORD RANGER'S A$$! AND It's MAD because it didn't get the chance to!

Thank you Brandon, I AM glad it wasn't any worse and that there weren't any passengers in either vehicle too! ;) Looks like some of the front end will be running in Primer before long, as I can't afford a repaint just yet.

I hear you srust, I thought of that as well. I don't know, the kid is probably in his early 20's or so and was as if nothing had happened and within a couple of hours, had already file the (so called) injury. I don't want to have cause anyone any injury, but I also don't want to think that someone thinks he can just moan a bit and collect on it either. Sorry about YOUR experience too!

Sorry to hear about your accident Bill. To bad you were not in your regular driver instead of your classic GTX. I know its heart breaking to see her front end messed up, but I know you will get her fixed up. Good luck.

Thanks man, it doesn't do me much good to see it like that for sure. Brenda's plate, on the bumper, came through without a scratch and that helped.

Gotta start rounding up parts but, can't DO anything until AFTER the investigators release it! >:(

Sorry to hear Bill. Hope it works out for all concerned.

Time to rethink about those 11.75" cop discs.

Yeah, we'll be alright. But the bumper brackets were on the truck. I've got the bumper, the piece that goes from the right fender to the left and is between the grille and the bumper, and the right fender has some damage as well. That front bumper WAS very NICE! Gonna have some painting to do as well, but I may just prep and prime the needed areas.

           Thanks for that Mike.

Yeah, I HAVE been thinking about the disc brakes again.

I agree, "Honesty" and Integrity" lost real meaning some time ago. AND that's too bad too.

Gotta get Berta past her Cancer and get the car taken care of, looking forward to doing some cruising with HER ASAP AND the Local Drive In Movie is open and I want to take Berta to the movies in the GTX too! 8)

Now, IF I had been in the '06 Grand Caravan, the 4wheel disc brakes AND ABS probably would have just made it uneasy (with NO accident).

Yeah duster, the car will be okay and I will be too. I WILL be getting started to picking up on the parts to convert to front disc brakes for sure.

Made the mistake of going by the Dodge dealer today and saw one of those NEW Charger R/Ts that was unlocked. Man that car has some pretty nice features on it AND had the 5.8 Hemi w/ the 5sp automatic trans and give right the same MPG that I get from the Grand Caravan.  Got about 2 more years to pay on the Grand Caravan though. A buddy on a Mopar forum that I belong to, sent me a deal telling about getting a Charger Daytona (list for $41K, for $31K and has a ton of features. Also has the 6.1 Hemi package too! 8) :)  If I could get it with only my trade-in and keep my payments where they are or less, might be feasible. Don't really need the Minivan space that much any more AND if I needed to trailer something, could always hook my trailer to my Dad's '93 Dakota.

We3ll, you know, it WOULD be nice to get this one paid off and be without that payment. But, if much of anything goes wrong with the thing, it's gonna cost me out the rear anyway AND I AM already making payments. So, IF I could keep the payments whta they are now por maybe even a little lower, it MIGHT work. ;)

Well it all depends on how long you want to make payments, Bill. Just because it doesn't go up doesn't mean it doesn't go forever...

Sorry to hear about the GTX. It's true that the kid could have felt whiplash a lot later. I had mine hit me 3-4 hours later. I never bothered to bug them about it. They paid the ER bill and my damage. Allstate wasn't going to pay, even though they hit me from behind while putting on makeup at 45mph. They even admitted it and wanted the insurance to pay but Allstate still wouldn't.  I had to get nasty and so did my insurance but they finally paid.

Good luck on getting stuff fixed and back on the road. I hope they give you the amount you need to do it. They will try to undercut the actual prices so get some actual amounts for those parts on your own. Then get an estimate for hourly to have someone do the job, even if you do it yourself. They may try to total it too, just because of it's age. Don't let them get away with it, Bill.  ;)

We'll just have to wait and see if the kid DID actually suffer afterwards, he sure got it filed quick enough. I don't know for sure, about him.

As far as MY car goes, I don't have to coverage for that. So, MY repairs are ALL on me! AND Mickey, the ONLY WAY that the GTX will be classed as "Totaled", will be AFTER "They Put ME UNDER!" ;) THAT is the ONLY WAY! ;) The whole thing is a real pain in the rear. NOW, I have to wait on the Insurance investigators to look at my Car and take pictures, before I can do anything with it. I am going to check with a guy I found out about, on ebay, who lives near by (about 20-25miles away) who has a number of parts for these sort of cars. I KNOW he has SOME stuff. He just MAY have all that I need.

Sorry to her about YOUR experience too. :-\
