Bumped neutral, should I be concerned? '77 550
« on: April 20, 2010, 04:30:23 PM »
Hey guys,

I didn't shift quite hard enough from 1st to 2nd this morning, hit neutral and revved the engine pretty high. I hit between 8-9000 rpm with no load on the engine. Between my reading here and the service bulletins I know that is possibly detrimental down the line.

Should I be concerned? Any precautions I should take to prevent throwing a rod through my cases later on?

Thanks for any input, I'm looking at you TT and Hondaman ;)

8 grand for a short period of time with no load is prolly not an issue.

Yeah, you probably caused some unnecessary wear that will give you some trouble in 20-25 years. ;D

You may now have to move house, surely your neighbours wont put up with that sort of racket for long! ;D
Seriously dude, we all do this from time to time weather through not enough boot applied or slight wear in the shifting mechanism so don't sweat the small stuff all right..... ;)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

LOL I have PEGGED the tach many times. Everytime, I say a little thank you to Mr.Honda! Not saying you should sit there at a light doing it but in the heat of battle @$&# happens. I wouldn't worry about it. Even if something bad happened what are you going to do? Take the engine apart for a pre-emptive rebuild?
Probably just cleaned out a bit of carbon.

Good luck!
