no gasket when sizing crank bearings, right?

Quick stupid question. One does not use "hondaseal" when using plastiguage to size bearings, correct?

That's right. Upon final assembly, with the torque thats rendered upon the main bolts, the HondaSeal is squished to molecular levels.

Even on final assembly you won't be putting HondaSeal around the mainbearing holders, just the periphery of the cases.

I believe that you should also install the seal around the main pillars in the cases- 99% sure that this was done at the factory-

Granted, this is my first dip into a SOHC Honda so I could be mistaken..........

My case was sealed at any point of contact.

Curious Hannibal and Matt. I'd be interested in others take esp HondaMan , M Rieck etc.

Seems to me not only is it unnecessary, but you run the risk of squishing some into the bearing area. But, OCICBW

On my factory cases there was "goop" applied sparingly to the main pillars, none seeped into the bearings, but it was definitely there.

I referenced HondaMan's "book" to see if he had an opinion. He says do not use sealer in the mainbearing areas. This will allow them to draw together more accurately and effectively. And stabilize the cases.  With any (sealer) thing in there the areas will be drawn in an oblong and while we are really splitting hairs, its still the truth.

I'll expand on that now. These comments are not in the book.  The main bearing bolts are torqued first. That stabilizes the cases. Then tighten the peripheral bolts.

I can see the factory doing it as a convenience to assembly. The factory and HondaMan (and I) don't see eye to eye on a lot of things. These are usually compromises of mass production.

It won't hurt if you do, but that's where I'm coming from.

I have always used 1104 /1194 on the pillars. I apply sparingly and keep it about .040 (1mm) away from the bearing edge. This is standard procedure in most Japanese motorcycle service manuals
