Once again, here's the numbers - worldwide
« on: April 29, 2010, 06:25:46 AM »
"Honda's CB750 is one of the most significant production motorcycles in history for one simple reason: It changed history.

In a market previously dominated by smaller-displacement singles and twins, Honda introduced a large-displacement, transverse, air-cooled, inline four-cylinder and as suddenly the 1969 class of one. American Honda sold 400,000 units in a 10 year-run.

In 1973 sales figures soared, more than 60,000 CB750s were sold in one single year, a number that's simply unheard of in today's street bike market. "

Could we have the data source?

You place quotes on the statements, but no attribution?

Very unlikely they are more than an educated opinion as Honda has never given out sales numbers.

I like to think its more.  :D

Could be the claim is American Honda sold 400,000...in US, or North America.

Honda overall may have sold more. We don't know from the quote. Too vague.

Interesting. Still vague.  And no one wants to blow the CB750 horn more than me, but without their source, and further clarification about the "American Honda" reference, all one can take from that is that Honda sold a real lot of CB750s.

My WAG is they had a source from AH that made his best guess (hence the round number) and that it refers to North American sales. Honda never did give that kind of info away on any model.

I also think a lot of my 750, but how 'bout those Super Cubs!  60 million sold:

http://www.wired.com/autopia/2008/05/honda-sells-its/

I have heard the numbers for 72-74 CB750s at around 60,000 a year in the US alone.  This made me think:  in a 300 day work year that would be 200 a day.  In a 10 hour day that would be 20 an hour, or one every three minutes.  Can anyone else install the wire harness or motor in 3 minutes?  ;)

You ever see pics of an old Ford Model T assembly line?

Back before working condition rules..... around 10 a minute....

I believe it if there are enough people working the line.
Now quality.... that'd be the real kicker.  :D
