SOHC starting
« on: January 31, 2006, 05:34:10 PM »
My CB 350-F won't start with a dead battery or off a boost and the guy at the Honda part's counter told me that if you can start one with a dead battery it will burn all your wireing up this question isn't really for this bike but are all of the Honda SOHC bikes like this?

I've never heard about burning your wiring, but if the battery is dead, replace it, don't bother jumping it...these batteries go bad once they go uncharged for too long.

You can't start it with a dead battery, not even with the kick-start.  The coils get their juice straight from the battery below about 2000 RPM.  If you get it started by jumping, as soon as you disconnect the good battery it will die.

I belive in keeping thing's right and i've had her 3 year's now and kept new batt's in it but i was just wondering. Forshure it won't go on a boost but apparently someone towed one with no batt and fryed it all.

Now I'm intrigued!  Explain this towing scenario.  Did somebody pull someone on their bike while it was in gear?

Hey gordon --------> I am with you on this.  That is rich & classic.  I've got this mental image right now; I think it is a scene from "Every Which Way But Loose," an old Clint Eastwood movie. ;D ;D

Can't hardly belive that you never seen a bike being towed it mainly involves a vechile or ATV towing the bike untill your going 15-20 miles/hour or so then letting the clutch out in first gear on pavement
wile doing this the guy on the bike tryes to keep the rubber side down and get it started. And to make it more fun the bike want's to go to one side of the towing vechile most of the time. Can also be done on a long steap hill but then you need a tow up.

Your parts guy should stick to what he knows. What he doesn't know is motorcycle electrics.

I needed a turn signal relay for my cb750.  The local Honda parts guy said he would have to order it.  I told him that I was sure he had relays behind the counter, just sell me a relay for a 750 nighthawk, or a harley or something.  He told me I shouldn't mix electrical components from different bikes because they are different voltages!  He couldn't produce an 11 volt bike, though.  I currently have the hazard flasher from a 1994 impala ss installed and it works great!  The turn signal relay from that car was too slow.  Yeah, some of them should just stick to fetching parts.
