strobe light
« on: May 13, 2010, 03:36:48 AM »
Decided to check the timing again with a strobe light, lent a good ole' american thing from a friend, thing is that it functions only up to about 2000 and then, seemingly the old elctronic circuit cant keep up, it shuts off, so cant get the reading at say 3000-4000.

With the wasted spark system of our sohcs, 3000 equals 6000 rpm in a normal strobe reading in a car, so maybe this old strobe lights cant really work on a modern bike?

Anyone has experience with a modern strobe light? Does it work on higher rpm's?

Not exactly worried, @ idle I get 8 degs which together with box's 22 advance should give 30 degs full avance, just wanted to double check the box is doing what it should and what is the actual reading in high rpm.

Thanks

TG

Ahhh mine doesn't even have an inductive pickup, so is probably older than that one, but it works fine.

I have a 12 dollar Suntune gun w/inductive pickup that I picked up years ago. Works just great all the way to redline.

OK, now I see that they go for next to nothing in ebay, should simply get one for myself i guess....

Trying to do a specific search with "sun" and it yields everything but the tool makers... too generic a name! do they still exist?

Anyone has recommendations for a simple one that works well?
