Was at the shop today, and mocked up 2nd the caliper.  Measured the offset and dropped the lower pivot off at the machine shop.  Amount works out to 2.5mm(-), which leaves .050(+) clearance to the fork leg.  If needed I have brass shims that I can use to get back some clearence.  Nice easy solution to the 'long boss' problem.

I wonder how the machine shop is going to hold the part square, to machine it? Looking at mine, I can't figure how to do it properly, with the equipment I have.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

My guess would be parells under the opposite face.  As to how they clamp it ???.

Hold it in a chuck or v-block..clock in the top surface, then clamp it..recheck, ...then cut..
