Where to find zirc fitting for front caliper?
« on: May 25, 2010, 03:22:01 PM »
I've got a 1976 cb550f with a stuck caliper piston/brake pad.  180 psi shop air would not free it, so am on to the next step of greasing it out.  Anyone know where to find a zirc fitting the correct size ; 10x1.25 or 7x1.00  ????

iirc, you can thread a eight inch pipe zerk fitting into the hose port but it only goes in 2 or 3 threads, but it does the trick

The end of the hose on the grease gun itself will thread in and catch a few threads, at least it did for me. Amazing how easily a stuck piston came out with the grease gun.

+1 Worked great, I was very surprised! Made me feel dumb for fighting with it for as long as I did...

Borrowed a grease gun from the Harley Ridin' neighbor guys, threaded the grease gun shaft(hard line) into the brake line port of the caliper; just a few good threads as mentioned above, and out came the badly corroded pad and piston!   Whew!  Nothing short of a miracle.  Thanks
