Well I suppose I can start off this thread with the start of my build.

I had always wanted a streetbike, after years of riding an MX bike and then realizing that I didn't ever do much off road anymore I sold that and began looking for a project.  Some how I stumbled across some Cafe racer images and fell in love with the style.  I started looking through various makes and models and came across a photo of a 750F cafe, was hooked instantly... Hit up the craigslist and called on numerous bikes, until I found, what I thought at the time was the perfect one.  30 miles away, 1978 750F for a measly $300.  Picked it up the next day, started working on it and realized the frame was bent, beyond what I was willing to put into it for a repair.

During a brief conversation with a relative who also has a couple CB750s he mentioned he had an old F frame I could have.  So I took him up on the offer, and brought home a 1976 CB750F rolling frame.  I looked into getting it titled, and was halfway through the process when a 1977 CB750F comes up on craigslist, for , I went over to look at it, with the intention of buying it.  When I arrived the guy selling the bike was packing up boxes and offered me a stellar deal to take it off his hands that day.  This is the bike as I brought it home that day...

And that introduction/backstory is all you get for the moment.  I suppose I can include a few photos of the completed bike, just to refresh memories.  Tune in later in the month for the continuation of the story!

Ok I will also then.. I did not have many before, during shots so it will just boil down to these... This was my first bike in about 15 years.. After much searching I found this forum and its wonderful community and vast resources, I really could not have done any of it (for better or worse) with out the help found here.. It also has many parts from forum members, so a vote for this bike is a vote for those that chipped in on this build.. (I know that was a shameful plug..)!  ;D

This is how it looked when I picked it up in Madison, WI..

After getting the parts, here it is today..

Here is a quick video of how it sits today..

This is sweet.  I love it when it goes like this.  Kind of like watching a tv series waiting for the next episode.

Besides, it helps catch the late voters and can turn that undecided vote your way.  One month, it was one mod that I caught late in the voting period that captured my vote.  You know, sometimes you just can't make a choice because all the bikes are awesome.

Btw, I have not voted yet.  Still undecided.

Wow this is a tough one....   I'm all about customization.  And I love the extremely well done, personalized bikes of Zaipai and the Mad Max style Cafe of b82ta.... but damn the stockers of zzpete and simpson's...with bagz! Absolutely stunning...  It's going to be a tough call.  Excellent work all of you!
It may come down to going thru the builds and seeing who worked the hardest and bled the most to come out like the rockstar that you all seem to be!!   NICE array of bikes here!...I'll have to ponder a while...
CHEERS!!!

Well at first I was pretty pumped, now after seeing the competition.. well its all about the fun at this point. The other bikes (all of them) are awesome and they all did a better job documenting their builds.. While I did not bleed the most, in fact I did not really bleed at all, I did get some bruises and threw my back out.. Does that count HedNut?

don't downplay your ride. this voting is subjective and you should be proud of your work! i'll likely steal an idea or two from you for mine.

Good points Ecosse, thanks for the complements.. I really am proud of what I have done with my little project.. I still have some things to do but its all stuff I can do later.. Honestly.. I was not putting mine down as much as just stating that I did not do such a good job documenting the build. I am just not good at that sort of thing..

Heading out to get my hand stuck between the chain and the sprocket.. that should do it...  ;D

This will always be the case, even when you are finished.  I still tinker with momma's bike.  And I find things to fix that ain't broken on mine.  When the back tire is due to be changed, I will go through the pumpkin, drive shaft and replace the bushings on the swingarm and shock but that is all stuff I can do later, lol.

I see next to the center rib there looks to still be some casting marks.  I'll tell ya, that stuff is a major pain getting that out (I don't have the fancy Caswell bits).  Good job of cleaning that up, yes!  I though I would never get that out of momma's.  In fact, there might still be some int there and near that same spot!

Nice satin type finish.

Jiminy Christmas...I don't know what to do.  I know I say that a lot, but god-help me, this month I'm even tempted to vote for a resto/stocker!  (Then again, given my record, this would only help the other two bikes in the votes...)

Great work to every body!

Hey Scott!  How'd the head in the sprocket go!?....that's bleeding for your bike in my books! haha   All kidding aside....I know how much work you did on your bike.  Anybody who's put some time in on one of these tattered beauties can easily realize the "behind the scenes HOURS" spent making a ol' #$%*ter spiffy! Even a VERY well documented bike rarely captures the hours of in-between work.  I like the touches that you've put into your ride!.....excellent.   High fiving a hex head sounds like it would get a few more votes too!? lol  Kidding

First, Thank you for recognizing my bike .
It feels good to be spot lighted among so many wonderful people and SOHC/vintage enthusiasts.
I regard the group here as extremely knowledgeable, talented and friendly family.
About three years ago I sold my 919 to fund this project.
The plan was to build my dream bike for a long term relationship.
In 10-20 years, I am confident I've still gaze upon it with the same passion.
It was a project spanning two winters and countless hours.
Both winters I had to pull the engine.

During restoration the SO spoke such words as:
"When will you be coming out of the garage?"  >:(
"Are you going in the garage, goodbye, see you tonight"  :(

Make no mistake this is a daily runner.
The last two seasons have seen about 8k, half of which have been 2-up.
Since we travel and grocery shop with it on the weekends, I added the bags.
The bags have been a wonderful addition.
My goal is to see 100k some day. 82k to go...

The complete story of my bike found here with pictures and videos.
