How do you tighten the clutch nut??
« on: July 22, 2010, 06:11:45 PM »
Engine is out of the bike (CB750K6), I'm reassembling it and trying to torque the clutch nut... how the $@$&! do you tighten the clutch nut with out the engine turning over?

The piston rods are the only thing you can grab onto at the moment as the cylinders are off, and the alternator cover is on so no putting a wrench on the crank unless i take that all apart again.

I have a home made tool which I'm sure isn't helping the matter but I'd hate to order a tool and wait a week before I can move ahead. I must be missing something as I don't see anyone else having this issue.

This is probably a little elaborate but I think tomorrow I'll find some wooden dowels i can slip through the 1 and 4 rods and wedge wooden blocks between the dowel and case to hold the engine while i torque the nut. I'll let you know how it goes.

Don't worry about it till its back in the frame, hook up the chain and I think you can hold it with the brake. Then install the clutch and cover.

Makes it lighter to lift as well.

If you put the front sprocket on - then loop some chain around it and then hang it loose above the sprocket - when you tighten the clutch nut you should pull the chain into the cases and lock it up..put some cloth between the chain and the engine cases..
