My Temporary Solution to Air Box -> Carb Boots "CB550 Guys"

To start my story - I work for an appliance parts company - ive always been a guy that  says " if i cant find it i'll make it"
With that being said, i own a 77 CB550k - Boots from the air box to the carbs aren't just flowing like water . So i was Checking around at my store for a corrugated hose that might take one of the boots place--- VUALA!!!

I have these in my stock at work. Now you can make 2 boots outta one hose-- I cut it back a few notch's and this is the result - It does seal good around the lip of the plenum and fits snug on my carb





I will be cutting it down another notch to make the clearance - This was done on my 30min lunch

It definitely does the job of connecting the air box to the carbs, but I would only consider it a temporary solution.  The stock boots are actually velocity stacks extending inside the air box.

Yeah i noticed the velocity portion on my stock boots - ill see how this works until i can get stocks

Yes temporary only.  If you look at the stock ones.  Note the smooth inner diameter for non-turbulent airflow. And, you'll also see there is a step at the carb end to match the carb inner diameter to the coupler inner diameter?

Turbulent air flow causes rather odd things to happen while mixing fuel with it at different air speeds.  Carbs don't behave predictably with turbulent airflow in the throats.

Pretty good post apocalyptic fix through.   ;)

I just used some corrugated hose for a temporary fix on my cb550F like you said worked great for now untill i can track some boots down.Thanks DocVile
