rocker tower placement
« on: July 23, 2010, 05:56:05 AM »
I just got a 71 CB750 K1 basket case and the head has been removed and the cam and part in a bag. How can I figure out which towers go where since these are matched parts and need to go back together the same way they came apart - right?

Left to right, no way of knowing, don't matter, flip a coin. The bearing caps are alpha/numeric coded to the holders, thats all.

You might find a clue, like if a dowel is stuck in one and not the other, or a puck is stuck to one and matches a missing puck in the head, etc. But if no clues, don't worry about it.  IMO

Thanks MC. I was reading the H-book on the topic and that's what he was asserting. Anyway I'll play with it and see what I can figure out. BTW, anybody here do valve jobs and or porting of these heads that you know of?

Any local engine machine shop can do just a valve job. I'd stay with the above for porting as they are familiar with the CB750

I'm sure there are others here, I'm leaving out.

Looking at your cam and where the towers meet it, you can kinda see a "fingerprint" wear pattern.  You may need a magnifying glass but I think you'll get there.  I have the same problem with a K0 engine and luckily or not so luckily, it's easy to tell what goes where  :o

How does one find Mike: MRieck on the forum?

And thanks Gamma. I think I can now figure that out.

I got it. The steel guides left in the rocker made it easy.
