Hondaman does customs? Who knew?!
I'll have to scan the pix I have of my favorite custom I did for my own brother: I sold him my CL350 when I got my CB500-4, didn't need FIVE bikes (had the 750K2, 500-4, CL450, SuperHawk racer, sold him the 350). He always wanted a Trumpet chop. So, after 6 months work (winter in IL is that long...) I rolled out the world's smallest Triumph chopper! Or so many people thought, until they would walk up to it and realize it was only 42 inches tall...
It looked just like a scale model of a Bonneville with oversized forks, strut rear end with custom flared fiberglass fender, risers and dual rectangular Hi-Lo headlights. I had to make custom engine mounts for it to set the engine level, because the 350 oil pump is in the very front of the engine (driven by an eccentric on the clutch mainshaft), so tilting it backward caused it to need almost a full extra quart of oil, just to reach the pump when running(!). This also dragged on the tranny gears real bad, too, so it killed the power. The led to levelling the engine and port work, etc., that turned it into a real roadster with a strong tendency to stand on the rear wheel. At one point in a race, he scraped the end of the flared rear fender on the pavement when it dug in the 5.00x16 rear tire too hard and stood straight up. After that I geared it up a little more and he took to touring with it until it was stolen in 1986.
