Well im just looking at options. I dont really know the condition of the cam journals on either of my 125s so im just sorting out options if i ever head down that way. I like to always be a step a head and constantly learning. I did see a weisco bigbore piston for the xr on ebay for only $50. Man that would really wake up the 125. I think im going to leave little frank as is for now and try to get the 78 running. Not sure what i will do with it. Front brake is not in service and i have not found anything about changing it to a hydraulic caliper. i have a spare fork leg and the drum from my cb100 parts bike so i may just go that route. The bike needs a tank and a seat. And i think im going to try and do a rewind on my cb100 stator and drop that on to convert it to a 12v bike. Then i can run some LED blinkers.

Cool stuff on there.

I was getting pretty frustrated with my bike. It was being weird and dying when i stopped at lights but only after a while or on hard down shifts and would sputter at cruising speed with the throttle just cracked. After posting on the thumper forum somebody mention that my needle may be worn. That made perfect sense to me so i ordered a new kit. Should be here in a few days. That needle would explain why i had to drop my float level to lean out the carb and why my air screw is not near what the manual says. So as a temporary fix i dropped the needle down 1 notch and took it for a ride. So far no sputter, haven got to go for a long ride but so far it seems i have found the culprit.

watch out for some of those aftermarket kits, odd sized jets, gaskets that dont fit and just generally not good.
not 100% if the parts are still available OEM. i had a stash that i used up so i guess i need to stock up again.

needle sounds about right.
also check the charging system as it can cause some funny things

Im pretty sure its the needle. I dropped it 1 notch and it has been running great. It still has the surging but its not at the cruising speed it used to be at. it has moved. Which makes me think even more that its the needle. I pulled it out and looked at it and couldnt tell if it was that worn but i guess i may not be able to tell just by looking at it. I think i might just leave it as is and hold on to the kit i bought just in case. I need to pull the plug and make sure its not running lean. It seems to be a little gutless at the to end of the throttle. makes me think i need to bump up the main to a 90 or so.

I really want to change over to 12v system. I have a stator of a different 12v bike that im going to try on my 78 125. If it works well ill do the same swap to lil frank.

I like it too. I actually feel like the bike is almost done. I want to lower the headlight an inch or two to bring it more in line with the flow from front to back, as well as add the blinkers back on. I made a lowered fork ear out of an old cb125 fork ear but then i realized that my forks are off a cb100 and are different. OH well. The one other thing I would like to do is have the seat re upholstered to bring it down to about half as high as it is now. But thats as close to finished as i have ever been with any bike.

You know, im no fan of clubmans either, thats why i had a set lying around when i started work on this bike. They actually fit well and are comfortable on this bike. I dont like how they look on 750s and 550s but on the 125 i like it. Cant put my finger on why it looks better though. My other 125 is going to get clipons when i get to it.

Put on a pamco IGN. Seems to work ok. The bike is running a little different now at idle but ill sort it all out.

Cool bike! 74 cl125 was the first road bike i ever had. I rode it from the time i was 14 till 16yrs old. It was also my first restoration project- i painted it and put on a new seat cover. Enjoy!

What do you want to know jag? Its the first one that i know of for a 125 single. Pretty easy to install, took about an hour. Works fine, i timed it with a light to get it dead on and the advancer works perfect.

Frank got some new blinkers. They worked perfectly to hold the headlight bucket on but were 12v. So i threw in some 6v lights that are usually inside the guages. They are 1.7 watt and not very bright so i just bought some 6v 10watt lights on ebay. If they work good ill replace the rear lollipop taillights to match these ones. They are still kinda retro/stock looking but not a huge as the OEM.

The stock bulbs are 16+ watts so i hope that 10 will be bright enough.

Yeah I have gone through 9 bikes in the last 3 years. 5 made it back on the road 3 were parts and one is just waiting in the wings. I have no kids but in a few years I will. My goal is to have all my current bikes finished so all I have to do when I have kids is maintain them. This bike is basically done, I just keep doing little tweaks here and there. I would eventually like to repaint it but its not to high on my list. Maybe ill ride it over to macco and see what they would charge for a cheap paint job.
