I dropped the front of the tank an inch. Can you tell? I can. now when i do a new seat i can have that nice straight line from the front to back.

Yes, you did a good job.  Looking good!

Nice job! I really like the looks of it,especially since you dropped the tank. Exactly how did you do this? I have been looking for one of these a 125 or 175 cl. I always seem to be a day or 2 late.. With the tank level I cant wait to see the finished result with a cafe seat. Do these little machines keep up ok in traffic?

In traffic they do great. On the open road not so much. I dont know the top speed yet (speedo is never accurate) but i put it at 55-60. But i would not keep it there for an extended run. As far as dropping the tank i just welded new nipples for the tank rubbers about an inch and a half below the stock ones. Its that easy.

Awesome, that is good to know and I will follow this thread closely. There is a guy here in town asking $725.00 for a mint 125cl. I nearly laughed as hard as I did when I saw the buy it now for a 400f on ebay.......................$10,000  ;D  I cant wait to see yours with the cafe seat. A huge plus is my neighbor welds. :o

i can say that i have had mine at 60mph for 20min straight.
these motors really will take the RPMs well as long as they are looked after.

I really liked the rack. It was very functional. But the wife hated it. So i said well if i take the rack off im going to have to start cafeing the bike. She said she didnt care as long as the rack went away. So i had an excuse to start changing things.

Im going to look at 2 this weekend neither have titles, 1 is in running, my hope... one of them has a rack. Im still interested in mr Moores, it will be a commuter cafe when done. Chances are I will be coming home with both  ;D ;D I will need a spot for my lunchbox  ;D. I will be using this one as a model for mine. Heck I could potentially spend more for gas in my p/u this spring/summer then I'll have in both bikes cafed' at that.

My plans for this bike if i get to keep it could go a few different directions. I would like to do the brat style. That would require a flatter, thinner seat and a shorter rear fender. I would also ditch the brake light and go with a smaller round one. Or option 2 is to do a cafe job on it. One other thing i have been considering is switching it over to 12 volts. I have gotten no clear answer on how to do this, from anybody who has done it. But my idea is to get an after market 12v reg/rec and throw on a 12v battery and see if the bike is putting out enough volts to charge the battery. If it does then thats way to easy and ill just change all the lights to 12v too. Otherwise it gets more complicated and then i think its just not worth the effort.

Be sure to post pics of the bikes. I love the 125 and if i do sell it, i will get another small bike. I would like a 350! One thing i dont like about the 125 is that it is difficult to do rearsets on it.

The problem with the rear sets is there is not enough material to mount them to on the 125, on the 175 its gets a bit bigger...motobits.com has rear sets for the 175. I hope it works out this weekend. I have a partial greenlight from the wife. I'm bikeless for the first time in 10 years, and i'm going through some withdrawls. I really think she is tired of me and my endless searching of feebay,c/l & the 3 forums that I frequent I check their classifieds daily. I admit it is a sickness and confession is good for the soul and the first step in recovery........the second is purchasing the cure!! ;D

Picked up another 125. I thought they were all the same but i guess they changed in 76. Went from 122cc to a 124cc. Oh well.

I was kinda bummed its different. I have a big bore kit for my other 125 but not sure if it will fit in the new motor. Im not sure what im going to do with this one but i would like to try and convert it to 12v. I think ill start with a 12v battery and a reg/rec from a cg125

tank was rusted to heck and seat needs a cover so its a go starter for a cafe bike. Need some 31mm clipons. It has the mechanical disk brake but I will either change over to a drum, because i have what i need to do that or i might find a way to change it to a hydraulic 550 caliper. Anybody tried this to see if it fits? I think its the same brake as a cb200.

the latter ones have a two piece head and a few other small differences
im almost sure that the difference is just in the bore.
motors will swap

I was pretty sure of that but can i use a big bore piston for the earlier motor in the 78. Just curious as I have one sitting around.

its a 56mm piston so def not a 750 piston. Oh well. I guess ill just wait and see what the bike needs. It may not need a rebuild anyway.

Hey Jaguar, do you know much about the xr200 top end swap? Is it just piston jugs and head or do you need the crank as well?

It's really just the head you want.  Unless you want to run that large of a bore.

The two piece head is better the the one piece and the xr is one of the best of the two piece heads

I have one.

What are you planing on building?
Cams are alittle easier to find for the xr too
