CB750 MISFIRE, NEED HELP
« on: August 02, 2010, 11:34:46 AM »
Hi, i posted for some help earlier with the tank fitment on a 75 model CB750 that i had fit some CR carbs on, well that was solved but it turns out my problems were eletrical and not fuel as i had first thought. After fitting the new CR carbs it still sounded funny and sure enough #2 & 3 cylinders were dead to the world. I fitted new plugs but still no better so i changed the coils and used some standard 750 coils i had for anoter bike, well same problem, no firing of #2 and 3 cylinders, there is no spark as i am using a KV meter so i am certain on that. there is voltage going to the coil that operates those 2 cylinders but i know the ignition system is not triggering that coil, thats the only way i can figure it out so far. It uses a Dyna s ignition system which i removed from the engine case to sheck spark advancer and thats like brand new, moves freely. I have run outta ideas so any one with this kinda experience would be more than welcome to share the fix. I should mention that the misfire problem started gradually, at first it would clear up in a minute of starting, then i had to ride a few hundred feet, then the block, then it would clear after 5 mins until it got worse and worse, not permanent misfire, i would love to get it fixed as it should be at a vintage car & bike show on the 9th.

Well its finally fixed. I took off the dyna s ignition system and used a new points plate assembly and she now purrs like a kitten. The CR carbs make it unbeliveably smooth, almost sound like fuel injection. Its now usning a standard ignition system with the CR carbs, its going to remain that way for awhile as next upgrade is the rear shocks, thinking of fitting progressives.
