What are your thoughts?
« on: August 15, 2010, 08:10:58 AM »
OK, I've added another feature to the front end of my 500T in an attempt to give the bike a more vintage look to go with the BSA fork gators. The "Pedestrian Slicer" kit that I used came from Domi Racer, and did not come with letters or numbers, so I found some mail box letters and numbers at the hardware store. The font is very close to factory decal on the side cover, but it's shiny like polished brass, so I'll have to figure out a way to tone it down, maybe satin clear coat :?:

Here's a few pics;

I've found the slicer to be one of those things that doesn't look exactly like I pictured it, or it just takes some getting used to. I haven't decided if it looks right, or out of place and I'm curious as to what everybody thinks so I'm open to comments.

Satin clear coat.

I think the problem is the cow-catcher- not the slicer.  That scrreen is so 80's and you're trying to get a 50's effect.  Dischord.

One or the other has to go, but now you have holes in the fender?!

I'd say leave it all. Why try and make it look like every other 'era' build. If you like a part, put it on your bike. Who cares what some dude on the sidewalk thinks.

True, it is a work in progress ;)
Thanks to those that liked it.

Ernie, You nailed it. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, and after reading your post it was clear the fairing was a bit out of place. I should have known you would have an eye for it, with all the great vintage pics you put on the Bikes and Babes thread.

     I have the original front fender in a safe place and the one I drilled wasn't perfect to begin with, so it's no biggie if I get tired of the slicer. Being so hot out I wanted to go without the fairing until it cools off anyway. So I took the fairing off and remounted the front turn signals, then took it out for a spin. Found a vacant car lot and snapped a few shots. I like it like this I like the fairing, so I'll probably put it and the original fender back on in the cooler months.

Again, it's a work in progress, so more input is welcome.

There were cafe bikes with 1/4 fairings back in those days, just looks to me like that one sat a little too high, (my opinion only) the bottom of the fairing should be at or below the bottom line of the tank. Of course you'd have to flip your bars or go with Clubmans, and change the fairing mounts, but...sweet bike with or without the fairing  ;)

Holy cow- you work fast.
Nice lines there.  It has a sort of flow that is not interupted by the screen.
Nice looking in general.  Well done.

Why does your spoke lace look weird to me?  Did you do something different?

The front spokes and rim are painted silver metallic because the finish was crappy on that wheel. (That wheel is from a CL450) It must be the paint because it's laced up right. I plan on rebuilding that wheel this winter using a rim with good chrome.
