Spoke buying
« on: February 24, 2006, 06:06:19 AM »
Anyone have concerns about buying spoke from e-Bay seller:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-Chopper-CB450-CB500-CB550-CB750-HARLEY-Spoke-Set_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35601QQitemZ4614326950QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Or is Buchanan the choice?

E-Bay spokes are SS and $40.00, Buchanan are $100.00!  Are they that much different?

Spokes are for 16" Harley rim on CB750.

I just got a set of stainless spokes off him the other day (arrived Monday).  They're all stainless (including nipples) & look great - I checked them with a magnet & counted everything to make sure.  They're made in Japan & look to be New Old stock. Shipping is quick & he is good about communication as well.  I've purchased stuff from him before & would again.

not to steal your thread or anything, but when making the switch to 16 in harley wheels, can you use the same rim front and back? they don't seem to specify, so I am assuming you can, but I get in trouble when I do that, so I'm asking

i would think the spokes would need to be different lengths because if i am correct the front hub is not as big around as the rear hub.

I've bought from Buchanans before.  The spokes there may be a larger gauge or double butted.   If you are spoking to an alloy rim, it should be bigger gauge than if you were spoking to a steel rim.  Also, the nipples were larger gauge.  I had to ream the holes a bit for them to fit.  The other supplier may be giving you the original size gauge.  I'm just guessing this may be the difference.

Whats the difference between the Harley and the Honda 16"? I have a 16" on my bike, not sure if it's a Harley or Honda. Does anyone have some pics of both/either? The spokes look the same, but I guess they would look similar. I'm guessing if there are any differences they are minute.

The other question is, where the hell can I find spokes for a 1982 CB650?  I've searched all over and can't find anything!

Really suggest that you talk to the Buchanan boys (www.buchananspokes.com).  I've had several rims redone by them and it doesn't get any better (not cheap. but top notch).  They've been in the business for 40 or more years and know thier stuff.  They'll respond to emails.
