CB350F - Fork restoration
« on: February 25, 2006, 06:25:05 AM »
The resto on my 350 is progressing and we are ready to send parts to be chrome plated. There are collars above the lower forks (5 in the drawing from the parts manual) that need replating but we can see no way to remove them. The Honda workshop manual isn't helpful and there don;t seem to be any fastenings. Maybe a hidden circlip or perhaps just sweated on? Any ideas guys?

Turtle,

Those chrome sliders are just pressed onto the fok lowers. You will see on the inner portion of the lowers a  recess area, where the bottom of the chrome sliders are. Being very very careful...slide a flat blade screw driver into the recess. You will need to tap very easy on the screwdriver with a hammer. Once you get this area to seperate...you will need to work your way around the fork lower, to seperate the slider. Spray some WD-40 down in the slider to get between the slider and the fork lower. Once you get some movement...you should be able to get your hands on both pieces and pull the two apart.

Be extremely careful when using the hammer and screwdriver, as the chrome slider with bend easily.

Hope this helps,
Greg
