How many CB750s per year were sold in the USA?
« on: February 27, 2006, 08:58:59 PM »
A friend and I were discussing the availablity of certain CB750 parts and we concluded that a lot of 1976 K models were sold (judging by parts availability) as well as 1974 and 1972 K models....but it seems that there are less parts for pre-1972 as well as 1973 and 1975 K models....does anyone know numbers on this sort of thing or have any info if this is in fact correct!? Or are we just imagining it all all.....this applies mainly to the K models....I I know that 1973 - 1976 parts are interchangeable but even bikes being sold (using Ebay as an example) seem to fall into these popular years......thoughts please.

thanks,
Andy in Boston

I don't have the exact figures but I read somewhere that 1973 was the best year, selling roughly 60,000 units. (Not sure if this is in the US or worldwide) This makes sense since this was about the time the Kawasaki Z1 came on the scene, dethroning the CB750 and claiming more sales.

In the 72 - 74 timeframe, it seems like everyone and their brother had a CB750 of some type.  It was the "in thing" around here.  As soon as the Goldwing came out, many 750's were traded in.  Others were sold outright as many guys went on to the next fad.  The early 70's was a good time for Japanese motorcycle sales.  We did not see anything like it again until the past few years with the H-D craze, although I think is has peaked as well.

No factual basis here, just a general observation.

Gotta agree with the above, in our neck of the woods. By 1973 almost every guy between 17 and 20 had a CB750. There were a few CB500s and a handful of Kawa 500s, but the vast majority were CB750s. And of those the bulk were K2s. Bu 1974 there were even less K4s than K3s. We had almost all finished either training or post secondary and were trying to settle down.
