Wife didn't kill me!
« on: September 17, 2010, 11:47:36 PM »
Well here they are, the way looked when I got there. Not too bad. The red '77 had a dent in the tank, other than that all sidecovers are there and good shape and all tanks look in good condition on the inside. Paint is not terriablr. The owner had said that they all ran but, they did say in was 4 years ago. Anyway I checked to make sure the engines all were free, and they are.  Had to pull everthing off them to get them on my trailer. No matter, all that crap was comming off anyway. They look better already. Now I got 4 sets of farings, lowers and saddle bags counting the set from my Tracy bike. Guess I'll fill somebody's dumpster.
What do you think, not bad for 200 bucks each?

So, how the best way to prep them for my first trial start? Take the tanks off and rinse them out. Do I need to pull the plugs and spray some peniteating oil on top of the pistons and let them a while before I put a hot battery in them and try and start?

Yea yea I know, the sidecovers on tha red and blue ones are upsidedown.

Well done mate, you got a massive bargain and you didn't even have to kill your wife before she killed you! Let me know if you get bored with one of them, I've always wanted an auto! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

It's probably buggered mate, better play it safe and send it to me, don't worry about what Hushy's saying either, he didn't even mention that Russell Crowe's a sheep shagger too! ;D

The 76 has probably heard about Terry's offer and is refusing to start just in case you send it to Ozzie.

You should "pay it forward": sell one and give her the money.
Then next time you run across a deal, she won't kill you!
Think about it, it makes sense...

Ha ha, it's a translation thing I'm sure, but over here, the term "Giving her one" has very little to do with motorcycles...........  ;D

hahaha...had a friend at work, a real nice, mild mannered guy, stand up from his desk and announce.."been a slow day, I think I'm gonna go home and lay some pipe". Me and the other guy there busted up laughing, we had to explain it to him, then he said he was installing some irrigation around his house... ;D ;D

Very nice! Been looking to load up my garage with a deal like that. I'm always a day late and a dollar short on the deals I find. Before you fill your dumpster with those hard cases, I would be interested in a set. I'm sure the price is right.....since you were just going to throw them away.  ;)

OK... I'm still looking at options on lowering one on these 750A's for my wife. Like I said before she's rather short so I've got a ways to go. The 77's are good because the fork tubes will slide right past the handle bars so that gives me a good start.
Now for the rear. I know I can go with lowering blocks, shorter shocks, 16" rear wheel and even trim the seat down, which I done all this in the past and have never had a problem. But as heavy as these beasts are I want to get her feet good on the ground so she has good control. So here is my latestest idea. What if I took the swingarm to a "good" fab shop and had them cut the axle mounts off and relocate and attach them say an inch higher. Not extend the swingarm, but lower the swingarm in relation to the axle.
Crazy right?

Sounds a little crazy, yeah - I'd start with the shorty shocks you mentioned above and go from there.  They're not expensive, and are easy to un-do.

My partner is also vertically challenged and I went with shortie shocks and remodelling the seat, if one of those 750's has a knackered seat, get it redone but with the front foam cushion chopped down to give her a lower centre of gravity.
Not sure how strong your lady is but the 750 is a rather heavy bike for the small and short so cornering and slow traffic could be a problem for her on such a beast.

Got momma's down about 3 inches front and back.  That last inch in the back was a bit of a bear.  I still need to cut the seat though.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
