Clymer manometer

Has anyone put together a homebuilt manometer like the one described in the Clymer manual for 750sohc fours?  Seems like it might be cheaper to buy one but I wonder if this one works well.

I looked at that pic, then promptly went to Cycle Gear and bought one for about $60.00. Who needs all that grief?

550-ko  -  thanks for that. i look at  picture of the adapter on page 59 and don't see how the hole( for a metal tube insert)  in the bottom left of the plate could line up with the carb intake bore. Am I missing something?  and while I have your attention kind sir, how did you attach the plate to the carb? were the stabilizer cans needed?    david

550_ko   thanks for taking the time with the explanation. There are enough jobs left on the bike resto  to do before spring and being able to buy one for less than materials,  i'll take the advice and look at the commercial manometers. By conicidence there is an active topic on that now.   :)
