Topic: wtf? fusebox melted!?

I'll add myself to the list of people who have been helped by this thread. After tearing down my wiring harness, reconnecting bullet connectors, and putting everything back together, to no avail - then I read this therad. I think my only problem was that the leads on my fusebox were coroded a little and the damn thing doesn't hold them tight enough. Apparently honda even recalled these boxes:

My dealer wouldn't find one for me, but a little sand paper, and some pliers to bend the leads back into shape fixed it right up for me. I wish I would have known before re-doing half my electrical... I just hope I put everything back together right.

As this seems a common problem, I picked up a new one to replace my slightly melted one.  Prolly not as cheap as a DIY, but it cost me only $35 and shipping.  I believe that ServiceHonda has them, although I think I got mine from CMS.  You may need to use the part diagrams on the CMS site (or elsewhere) to order from ServiceHonda.

FWIW

Clean those fuse clips (holderss) with a .22 Caliber bore brush.

Cheap at K-Mart, etc. Works PERFECTLY! Slip the brush into both of a pair of clips and spin it back & forth with thumb and finger. Quick, easy, shines the clips like new. No possible damage to the clips.

It is amazing (to me) how a little corrosion on the fuse clips can cause major problems. I didn't  know it til TooTired made me aware of it. Same applies to corroded (ALL) connectors. Now, I'm a believer!

Cleaning and some dielectic grease solved my problem/s on the '77 550 - all at the advice of the good folks on this Forum.

I still hate wiring!
