R10 on 750 camshaft

Having found that the 1974 engine on my Foale framed 750 has 64mm pistons and thus comes out at 810cc, I find the cam has the figures R10 stamped on it - does anyone know if this indicates standard or otherwise? Or is there a serial number elsewhere that gives any clue?

Generally the "R" numbers are Honda production numbers and indicate it's a stocker. It could be a stocker that was worked on (welded up and reground) if you're suspicious its a hot cam.

Otherwise its stock. (I think) Though I'm interested in what Big Jay has to say.

OK folks - can't seem to upload any pics at the moment, but the R10 is (I think!) stamped round the cam (as it were, as opposed to along it) just to the No3 cylinder side of the sprocket. Definitely cast into it betweem the No1 and No2 lobe sets are the characters 'D' on one side and '2' on the other. Also the lobes look to have a very steep angle of closure on them - if it stops raining I can always go out to the garage to measure the height of the lobes if anyone reckons this will help. While I'm throwing imponderables up does anyone have any idea of the wheels (see pic next to my ID!) They look a bit like the GSX Suzuki wheels but don't cross over near the rim. They are stamped 'Made in Japan' and the rear ub is Honda though the front discs look like Brembo a la BMW.

interesting background, you live up to the story about british policemen being the most educated out there.

got caught speeding on a superblackbird in 1999 on the way to london after getting off the ferry from france. They were extremely polite and being a foreigner, they let me off without a fine and added: dont forget to tell your co-nationals how nice we are :)

TG - Here's the frame - even has a side stand. One of the loops that are (I suppose) meant to be rear footrest hangers has fallen off due to bad welding I guess. Don't think they are original anyway, so the other one will probably be cut off and the frame tidied up. Also planning on removing the battery tray with a view to mounting a battery in a seat hump, leaving the monoshock as exposed as possible - it is a central feature of the bike after all.

OK Rupert, calipers in hand. Yoshimura Daytona cam purchased new in 1976 with 25,000 miles: 35.94mm and 35.40mm. I measured the edges to try to get a spot with less potential wear.

Contrary to a previous post, I'd disagree about the "R" numbers being Honda production numbers that indicate it as stock. My intrepretation is that it's a casting blank mould number and not necessarily indicating a Honda stock cam. Looks like not only did Honda use these but Yoshimura too as my Yoshi Daytona cam is a R9 but with "B" stamped on the timing mark end. Neither of my other 2 stock cams have any such stampings. My guess would be either Honda made these and Yoshi bought from them and ground them or better yet they both bought from the same supplier and ground the blank to their specs or perhaps the supplier both cast and ground to specs.

I have one of these at home.  R10.  Ill put some calipers on it and look for other markings.

Here's a photo of one of the lobes if this helps judge the nature or origins of it - definitely not stock I'd say

I think it is.  I have 2 "R1" and one "R10" cams on my bench.  They are all that steap.

I have 11 motors on my table(s) with stock cams..........all have casting numbers similar to those on this thread.  Some have colored hand script in addition. If HONDA was to have a problem, they could issue a selective recall.  Interesting that quality control was intense in the late '60s but HD did not hire staff for QC until the '90s.
