2 bills is fairly undramatic... just stuff.... your the sausage in the can.... not much more...

Around 180 it gets fast and stays fast until around 240 when it becomes a new level of OMG fast...    Keep in mind most of the 250mph and up stuff is Bonneville so it's 240+ mph for 5 Miles... or the last four miles go by at around 14 seconds a Mile.... Over a MINUTE at big Speed....  and the car is generally loose as a goose.... like riding down a pea gravel road or on Ice....    the nose of the car fights the wind and is always floating a bit....

You don't drive as much as you "Coral" the junk towards the centerline...

Fun stuff really.... heading out towards a place called Floating Mountain...    I wrote something a while back it's on my box somewhere.... I'll dig it up...

Thanks, I have a fellow Ii went to High School with who drove Formula cars and he spoke about "tunnel vision" coming on over 180 mph since your brain cannot process peripheral data fast enough.

I used to go to drag races in the 1960's and I remember you could see who won.  I took my kid to the Nationals at Raceway Park in Old Bridge NJ about 10 years ago. I was amazed at the speeds. I saw Kenny Bernstein break a record, at 300 +. His car was there and then it wasn't.

We wandered the pits and ran into Kenny and I asked him the same question, he said you feel it you have no time to think. I ran into a fellow that broke a record on a fuel bike. He said the same thing. He also told me he never rode on the Street because it was two dangerous. ;D

I have gone about 200 practically on the ground, but while exciting, I don't think it was close to what you experience. Then again you were tested, and trained to be the best, so you are well suited for this. Keep the left skid down. ;D

Andy Green, the fastest man on earth is also a fly guy, A wing commander with the RAF.

We're not related but I met him last year. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=60573.0

I've hung out with Andy several times.... nice guy... Flys junk that don't hover.... but he's genuinely a Land Speed Racer... he just came out and ran that Diesel Streamliner over 300 Mph...   ( read Badder Asser )...  He's just taken with the whole record setting mode...

He will crack it or it will crack him. Lotta physics in play going that fast on the ground or in the air. It goes beyond the old Art Arfons of stuffing a big turbine in some sheet metal.

Sam, I think heat will be their problem also as they push the envelope.

The real issue is space ..... and cleanliness...  Most surfaces are simply not acceptable to go that fast on...  if you've not seen Andy's Shock wave at sonic mach numbers.... it's freaking impressive  just imagine that junk getting in front of you..... or how bout a Series of compressor stalls with that kind of speed...

Scary stuff...

You can see the shock wave building up in this one, followed a second or so by the sonic boom.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Sam, what Keith is taking about is a disruption is airflow through the turbine blades. There is a series of them in the engine, and each set of blades feeds the next series behind it. They have a calculated angle of attack similar to a propeller or rotor.

When that angle of attack of a rotor blade(s) is changed you disrupt airflow through the engine front to back. Debris or a disruption of the intake air for any reason can cause diminished incoming pressure which can cause a lower pressure condition in the forward part of the engine than the pressure in the aft part of the engine, the air/fuel can then push forward. You can get a "backfire". These can be surges, or in extreme cases cause a flame out.

In flight you can roll off the throttle gently trying to stabilize the engine flow, or in a flame out attempt to restart. Either scenario would not make for a record run. A worst case scenario would be a large enough surges in one engine to throw him out of control. He does not have the options an aircraft pilot has. He does not have altitude and speed to give him time to recover, he has speed and no altitude.

You need a set of cannon balls to do what he does.

I fly kites... :-[

I fly kites too!  Single and dual liners, singles and stacks of 3-5.  Mostly deltas, and a couple parafoils.
Entry price is pretty decent, and of course fuel (wind) is free!

I've got a couple that will drag my 180# butt all the way across a soccer field in 20 mph+ winds.
