Finish on handle bar controls
« on: November 08, 2010, 10:16:57 PM »
No doubt there is a post regarding this but I can't find it, so if someone can answer my question or direct me to the right post I would appreciate it.
What is the finish used on the bar controls on a 71 750? Its not paint but its faded so I can't see it being a plating ! I figure it must be some Japanese secret . And secondly can I reproduce it ?

I think it's a black anodization which is a bear to remove.  not sure about how to reproduce it...

visit or ring your local chrome platers, they can remove it,its a nasty electro/chemical business, youll have to remove all the plastics and electrical contacts and supply just the housing off course.

I like the VHT SP739 Satin Black Caliper Paint.
It isn't exactly the same but it looks good and is durable.
I've used on Triple Trees as well.
Preparation is the main thing.
Glass Beadblasting is good if you can.

thanks again, thats a great post I am now an expert on anodizing and now know enough that I will get another expert to do the work :)
I would love to give it a go at one point but me thinks I will try some guy I heard of through "do the ton" forum here in Toronto.
At least I know whats the process is and whats involved.
So thanks again to all.
