How the hell do I get the cam chain guide out?
« on: November 18, 2010, 02:30:17 PM »
So I finally picked up my lazy ass and decided to pick up from where my project bike left off last winter, but I'm currently stuck.  How do I remove the cam chain guide from the head?  Every which way I try to angle and twist it, it doesn't want to come out.  Please please help me out.

I know this has been asked a thousand times on a thousand posts, but what engine and year are you inquiring about?

1980 CB650.  I tried the search and found two specific topics relating to this.  No one replied to them at all.  At least I'm a step ahead with your post, lol

From the head or from the jugs? You can't remove it without at least lifting the head a bit above the cylinders. From there you should just be able to lift it up and twist one side or the other toward the other end of the cam chain tunnel.

I guess if it's really stuck in there, you could lift the cylinders up so as to give it a tap from the bottom...

you aren't alone. they are a #$%* to remove, but it's just a combination of twist and pull, 3 hours later bingo.

haha, i just took a bite and gave it some elbow grease.  I wasn't sure how much twist the plastic could take so I never really gave it that hard of a twist and pull... now I know!
