First snow - Hangin' up the gloves..
« on: November 23, 2010, 08:17:07 AM »
Its that "shtty weather" time of the year.  Resorting to only starting my CB on weekends to keep it alive.  Hooked it up to the float charger too.
Seattle got its first snow of the year and the area is fukt!  3" and 13F at my house at 5am today.
No one around here knows how to drive (cages) in the snow.  Kinda surprising since it happens every year.  Cars ditched all over the roads because they THINK they can make it up THAT hill, instead of taking the LONG route home.  >:(
Not enough budget/snow trucks to keep us plowed/sanded/salted/de-iced.
Only 1" and its like the sky is falling!  The city shuts down.
2"+ and its the '"snowpocalypse"!

Its pretty, but a real friggin' headache.

They have promised us some for this week as well >:( this time last year I had just hit Boston. A couple of weeks later it went from 80s on Thursday to 18 inches on Saturday ;D
Thought I might be spending Christmas in the US but the armies of little trucks with snow ploughs on them kept all the roads clear. Sounds like Seattle is like the UK, first sign of a snow flake and the country grinds to a halt. :D :D :D

We had a 'breeze' blow through a week ago.  Neighborhood was freakin out!
At 10pm, it downed a 90' fir across the road in front of my house.  38" across at the base.
Blocked traffic to 30 homes.
By 10:30, me and a neighbor had it cut up and the road cleared.
Called public works the next day to come out and fix the guardrail it smashed.
(gotta get the most out of my taxes!)

No freakin' out here!  :P

for those who dont like driving the snow....move to Yuma, or stay home!

Windy, 20F and flakes of snow in the air here in western Wisconsin.  Got the new tank for the CB550 cleaned up and primed, and now I guess it'll have to wait until spring for outdoor-painting weather, not to mention riding weather.  Time to install pods and bigger jets on the carbs, but too cold to test it out.  Patience, patience . . . I don't often wonder why I left Texas for Wisconsin, but now may be one of those times.

My brother went to school in Seattle, loved it, rode a Kaw 650 in those years up there. He's back in Texas, and traded off his bikes years ago for Corvettes.  Never could see the attraction, myself.

I love driving in the snow WHEN there aren't a bunch of people out who think they drive in the snow. I had some old lady yesteday driving a Camry uphill towards me, why I don't know because sure enough she started spinning and got stuck, forcing me to back up and go another way. Came home, started a fire, poured up a Baileys and Spiced Rum on ice and turned on the news to watch the mayhem. Fun stuff!

Flybox1 I hope you guys don't lose power, it's too damn cold for that.

I can't stand the drivers around here. I drove all the way to work this morning, allowing extra time of course. Once I arrived I realized I was the only one there, the job site I am at now was closed due to weather. WTF? Construction workers can't drive in the snow anymore either. Right after I just got over a serious financially depleting situation work is canceled because of 2" of snow. My 400 will never get done at this rate. :P

I got home to find some a$$hole abandoned his car blocking my street. ::)

Yeah...wrapping it up here at the o(ro)ffice, and headed home before it gets nasty to go sleddin' with the kids.
Duanob: No worries about a power outage.  got a generator/panel interlock kit installed a few weeks back, so the wife and babies will stay comfie in the event one of these crazy drivers takes out a power pole.  if ya' pow-pow goes out, come on over!   ;D

Rat:  ya know!?  a good friend is a GC for Habitat for Humanity in Wenatchee.  works year-round outdoors.   they got S-tons of snow over there now.  i guess some have tougher skin than others  :P

FunJimmy:  You mean you guys in S. Alaska cant drive in it either?   :D ::)

The worst thing about this is the local media attention it's getting. It's been "Arctic Blast 2010!!!" for 24/7 since yesterday. And yet as I watch the evening news not one word about an impending war between north and south Korea. Freakin' amazing. A snow day is more important than a new war.

You guys will never guess what I did to my bike on Monday. I finally put color on my tank and sidecovers. Only problem is I did it in my aunt's un heated garage. I built a little visquene paint booth and stuck a heater in there but when it reached 20 degrees Monday night the heater was useless. At least the paint was dry by monday evening although it will take years to cure at these temps.

I love it when people complain about the drivers around here but 2/3 of Puget Sound's population is from somewhere else. So that tells me that there are crappy drivers all over the place but they concentrated here! I lived 2 years in Anchorage working construction even at 30 below. BUT they had there fair share of crappy winter drivers too.

Duanob: I was referring to Corvettes, not Seattle.  Never visited your lovely city, so cannot make a judgement.  Yes, the Upper Midwest is lacking in urban sophistication, but the fishing is great.

As far as Texas goes . . . ask our esteemed Texas members about their July electric bills, wasp nests in the rafters of their garages, fire ants in their yards, and drivers who don't need snow and ice to endager a poor, innocent motorcyclist.  Not to mention sweat in your eyes when both your hands are covered with grease.  I remember it well.  Excuse me while I put on another sweater . . .

I can attest to to living in Texas too, that is so right on.  But I also spent most of my life in Buffalo NY so I also know about some snow, and yes they forget how to drive in it too.  But now that I live in Georgia it's even better, this area goes nuts when you just mention snow.  They shut down everything at the very mention of the whit fluffly stuff.  However I was gonna ride to work this morning (aside from the fog the temp was great :D), but the 350 was down a cylinder this morning >:(, guess I gotta pull the left carb again.

db22 Oops! Sorry to take that personally dude. I believe I live in God's country ...... when the sun is shining of course. As cold as it got here yesterday the skies were the Bluest You've Ever Seen! Very pretty but I wouldn't be caught dead on two wheels.

As far as Corvettes I totally agree with you, unless they are 1967 and older. I can appreciate those.

db - My elec bill in July was $200, not bad for a 2500 sq ft home and I have a heat pump, so no gas bill in the winter! I have not seen wasps in my garage nor fire ants in my yard and have a towel to wipe the sweat when my hands are dirty. When it snows - Snow day... I just stay home!
