Also been workin' on my switchgear.  Took 'em all apart to polish the housings and have got myself into a pickle with that starter button >:(  First I broke the button trying to get the switch back together, then I  got it working but broke a wire off of it trying to put the other half back together for the third time!

Here is my fabbed up seat bracket.  It is rather...uhh...heavy duty :-\  So I lightened up.  Surprising how much weight this actually saved :)  Now it looks like some kind of erector set creation. :o

Unfortunately, it's not mine...just sharing the same paint job jail cell as my bike.  Funny though, back when those were new, I thought it was the gayest thing on four wheels.  Now...I kinda like it.

Sean, Do you ever make it over to the Gilmore Auto Museum for the annual classic bike show?

Sure do, sold my first bike at the swap meet about 4 years ago.  ('71 cb350 twin!)  Plenty of cool car shows there too.

I've been there several time. KZ is a really pretty area. I'm hoping to make it to the show again this year. I'm kind of annoyed though that it's the same weekend as the show at Road America in Wisconsin.

I've been playing with the idea of entering my 550. It's all original and will clean up very very well, although it won't be a concours bike by any stretch.

Probably the best way to enjoy the show, whether you're gonna win or not.   IMO would be pretty tough for a 550 to beat some of the heavy duty stuff in the stock jap bike class like CBX's, Z1's, stuff like that...and I don't even wanna hear about trailering it there! >:( ;D

nice...this is encouraging as I wasn't planning on clear coating my aluminum parts.  Did you?  Also I like what you did with your handlebar clamp/indicator light thing.  I am thinking of losing mine...but I want the bright and oil pressure indicators.  I've been thinking about wacking that thing down to just the clamps like this...but then I gotta do something about those indicators.

I did not clear coat my polished alum parts, no need to.
It could yellow over time. Plus, if there is no coating, just polish up when/if needed.

Hey Sean....I was gonna tell you about this the other night but I couldn't remember the guy's name. So just now I see your post here and his is like 2 posts away from yours!! Its SohRon and its the assembly, history, and discussion of the right hand switch. Real good pictures and looks like it would be real helpful for rebuilding this part. The starter buttons are a weak link of the control....I've had a few that came to me broken and also seen a few on other people's bikes. Hope this helps you.

Thanks Mr. Breeze.  I actually read that thread a while back and it was what gave me the confidence to take the darn switches apart in the first place.  It is all great info and photos!   ...but...that starter button has defied the dexterity of my oversized fingers...for now...

The second pic in the above post shows a seal driver my hog mechanic buddy came up with...this thing seriously made fork seal installation a 10 second job.  Working on the frontend revealed two surprises...one good, and one bad...the good discovery was what appear to be progressive rate springs.  Not stock right?  The bad discovery was a dented steering stem preventing my tapered bearing going on.  My first clue was when I took the lower triple out, the lower bearing race on the stem crumbled into three pieces.  I didn't notice the kink in the stem though and went ahead and re-painted it.  I didn't realize the stem had been damaged until I went to put everything back together with tapered rollers.  Forum member Ekpent came through with a replacement right here in my own town! ;D
