For the Metro Atlanta guys (and there has to be more than just Trav-i and me that want to do this).........

We need to leave early enough Sat. the 12th to meet up with Mad in Savannah that evening.  No ideas yet on the route.  I do hate I-16...but it is the quickest route.  Not opposed to 441 to Dublin or whatever else y'all come up with.  Any of you west Atlanta or Kennesaw area guys...we can meet anywhere down the road south of Atlanta.

That Saturday night we have been invited (weather permitting) to camp in  Benders back yard (Bluffton).  Might grab a cheap motel if the weather sux.

Sunday am we head to Columbia ( I suppose...still unclear as to whether we are going to Charleston 1st.  Seems a little redundant since Nickkisix is picking IT up in Columbia and he lives in Charleston)

Then I suppose we  take some pictures... #$%* and moan a little and head back home.  Probably gonna want to hit I-20 and make some time.

What WE NEED is some more metro Atlanta riders...cmon y'all.  I know we have guys/gals out in Villa Rica...Marietta...Kennesaw....

How bout you coastal guys putting some time estimates and routes to columbia out based on local knowledge.

Great job so far.  Nikki is not from Charleston.  He is in the Charlotte area.  Since he is taking the token from Columbia to R'ham, we would like to get it to him by the 17th at the very latest.  So that gives us Start date 12th, arrive in Savannah that night or the next morning.  Head to Charleston through the 15th or 16th and get the token to Columbia on the 16th or 17th.  Then it will head to Rockingham to be there by the 19th.  At this point I need to get some info filled in.  The hand-off info that I have from Nikki is tentatively March 26th in Fancy Gap on the Blue Ridge Parkway.   That is about 10 miles north of the NC/VA border near I-77.

I think the path from R'ham to Cherokee at the southern end of the Blue Ridge will be along Route 74 going south of Charlotte. 

We are filling it in, nicely.

This puts some pressure on the South Carolinians to get it to us by the 17th.  Now, If ya'll rather head due north to Rockingham from Charleston and meet us there we can do that too?  I've heard Sam is buying rounds for us, Brit Pound being so sound the world 'round and all     Not trying to muddy the waters, just putting it out there.

Wardenerd should be able to get in on the Rockingham action.  He can spit on the track from his front door!  
Dhall - can you meet us on a ride on the Parkway the weekend of the 27th?
I know of two fellas from the Rock Hill area. Scott S - you got your bike running yet?  

I've talked to Markcb750 and Asom and they are game for a route from the queen city (Charlotte) out to the BR Parkway and up to VA.  I'm having a get together at my place the last weekend of February to discuss the exact route.  If you are from this area, you know the twisty roads we'd most likely take from Charlotte to BRP (74 to 80 get on BRP south of Little Swizz and head north on the BRP) Any and all in our area that wants to meet up are welcome.  With everyone's input we'll plan exact times, layovers, and routes to fill in the gaps.

Bluto - are you going to be be in Columbia for a handoff?  I'm still not sure who my contact is for the pick up.   Somebody call the ball so we can firm up the handoff

My understanding is that when Nikkisixx and co hand off to BlueRidgeRunner he'll head to the Roanoke area and I'll take the hand-off.  Not sure where the next stop is.  I've suggested Lexington as a possible hand-off spot but am willing to head where-ever needed (within reason since I only have a day or 2 max).  Maybe Clifton Forge or Covington.

I'm thinking that me and Trav-i are going to pick IT up on the eveing of the 12th or morning of the 13th....and head to Columbia to hand off to Nikkisix the afternoon of the 13th...and then head on back to Atlanta.

We are hoping for more Atlanta area riders...but, ya never know.

Weather permitting we will camp at Benders "back yard camp ground" and head to nikkisix the next morning.....and then head home.  Y'all let me know if I'm on track here or not.

 okay Bluto and Trav-i, you've got me hooked for the ride to Savannah, I did the ride to Savannah on a bicycle 20 years ago from here, so it's time I did it on something with a lot more power between my legs!  Those dates work for me so I won't have to take off from work, but who knows since wardenerd is willing to take it from Columbia, I may take off that Monday and tag along with him up to Blueridge before I  head back to Atlanta.  Are you guys game for that also? I think I could handle I-16 to cut some time off our ride, it's not as scary as 285 and the visibility is wide open, but I do hope we hit some back roads also because I remember going through some wonderful small towns on my way there. I'm getting excited now. I guess I'd better inform my wife of my impending road trip. Let's ride!

Me and you and Travis.....(and where the hell is Fabricator)?  need to get together in a few weeks (warm weather is on the way) for a cold one and route planning. Don't think we will be able to go farther than Columbia....that work thing keeps getting in the way of my riding.   Let's keep in touch and I'll wait to hear from Travis about getting together for a planning session.

 Bluto, I'm thrilled to be aboard,but forget about what I said abut being okay with riding on I-16, I just checked out Google map and there's a nicer two lane route to Savannah that will a lot less wear on our nerves about being creamed by a truck! The route is 244 miles from my house and starts on 212 which is near my house and is the way that I take to McDonough.It takes us through Milledgeville, Sanderville, Statesboro and its a great ride with roads that will still allow us to move along at a good clip. Take a look at on Google maps. Let me when you guys want to meet, I've been riding in the cold as long as the streets are dry, I'll be running here this Sunday. Peace, Vern

I talked to Chris last night he said he's intrested in riding with us (guess I need to let Jerry know), and I agree we def need to meet up for a planning session.  I haven't even really looked at a map yet to even look at a possible route.  How about meeting at Taco Mac in Buford sometime (Mmmmmmmmmmm beer)?

Based on several people I have communicated with this is the sketch so far with our start and endpoints/dates.

madmtnmotors will be leaving on Saturday March 12th and heading up to Savannah for a meetup with a Bluto, Bender01 and maybe others that evening.

From Savannah on the morning of the 13th, they will be heading up to Columbia to meet with Nikkisixx.  There will be some down time for a couple of days and then Nikki will head up to R'ham for the weekend of the 19th to meetup with Sam.  From there he will head back home for a couple more days then head out to the Blue Ridge around the 25th.  Hand-off will be from Nikkisixx to Blueridgerunner in Fancy Gap VA on the 27th of March.  

We do have a bit of downtime in here and Charleston has been temporarily bypassed.  If anyone wants to figure out a way to pick IT up from Nikki for an excursion east and then back so he can continue up to Rockingham, get in touch with him.  I expected that the weekends will be the most traveled days throughout the entire Relay but it would be nice to fill in some of the time during the week.   My main objective by the end of this week was to have the start and hand-off dates set so the next leg can start planning.   I will point them at this thread so they can get their region in order.  

EDIT.  Just realize that after IT is handed off to Blueridgerunner that it will go to Cvillechopper around Roanoke and he will handoff to the next region.

Good to hear that Chris is on board.  Check out Bluezboy's route from previous post.  Sounds pretty good.  I'm not sure where he lives...but, we might arrange to meet him down the road a bit.  It also looks like Drones has us going from Savannah (or probably Bluffton....where Bender lives) straight to Columbia to meet Nikkisix.  I think that is a good thing since we are going to have a long haul home on that Sunday afternoon / night.

Let's keep an eye out for a warm Saturday that we can get Bluezboy and Chris to meet us for a planning session at the watering hole of your choice.

Maybe heading south from Columbia, SC Friday or early Saturday and meeting up with the GA guys (Bill, Vern, and Travis) somewhere between Atlanta and Savannah, then finish the loop back to Columbia with them. We could run up by bluffton, maybe on to beaufort then to Columbia. we don't want to take too long if y'all are headed back to GA Sunday evening.

If your skipping Chas. theres no sense going to Beaufort to Cola. 462>336> 321/601 plenty off straight rds to Cola! Unless you want to revisit Parris Island. Ive done 321 in a car years ago! It has cool little towns! Farming communities.I take the ride to Tillman and cross over into Ga and circle back through Savannah. The rds to Cola will be very boring. The ride to Chas is scenic for marshes and low country beauty.If you all from Ga want to see something other than small farming towns on your trip than I would not leave Chas out. I dont care what is decided as long as Im riding the 13th somewhere

Hey Bill and Travis, I live in Stone Mountain, here's my address 863 Carlisle Road 30083 so you can google where I am. I'm only about 20 minutes from the start of the route, which begins at Wesley Chaple Road near I-20. We could leave from my house or meet some where nearby. If you guys wanted to trailer your bikes to my house I  we have enough room in the back to leave your vehicles.  I'm open to leaving at 9 or 10 that morning so we can have enough time for photo ops, food  and fuel. And I will be coming back with you guys after we do the exchange in Columbia, someone has to drive those critters to school!

 When we get to Columbia, we should do the exchange in front of the State Capital Building, it will make a great backdrop for the photos. Vern

I'm with you 100%, the only reason Charleston was left out was that the GA guys are going back home from Columbia on Sunday. That in itself is a 4 hour ride. I though beautfort would be scenic without going to Charleston. We could run out to Hunting island and see the lighthouse or such. The ride from bluffton to cola is not going to be that interesting as you said. If we leave from Savannah early we could run to Charleston, be there about lunch the be in Columbia mid afternoon. that might not be too late for the GA guys. Just got to remember its march...it still will be cold, especially when it gets dark.

You coastal guys plan whatever route y'all think is best.  We can peel off anywhere along the way and head back if we need to.  Still planning on meeting Mad and Bender on the 12th in Savannah and cruising out to the "Bender Bar and Campground" in beautiful downtown Bluffton.

we're going to get together this weekend for a route planning / beer tasting meeting.......We'll post our plans after.

There seems to be plenty of time before Rockingham and we do want to involve as many folks as possible.....so y'all plan the best route and we will get this party started.  Ya never know......we might stay Sunday night and crawl home Monday.
