So it's looking like April 20th for Texas??? That would be good, gives me more time to get my bike finished, and hopefully get some work in and make some money!

I don't know what the rest of you guy's do for work, but I do welding/fabrication, and pressure washing, I haven't done much of anything since October and it's starting to get worse.
A lot of my customers are closing the doors and going out of business so It's still up in the air if I'm going to be able to make it.
Not having work, I have had plenty of time to work on my bike, but no money for parts... lol

Yesterday was the first time anyone from the Austin area had posted here.  I am more than happy to amend the route, though I am more inclined to skip Austin proper cuz I hate the highways there.  Perhaps hit the hills around Austin.  If any of you guys have any ideas, shoot me a PM and I will make modifications.

I agree, riding in Austin proper would not be fun. There are great roads just Northwest of the city.

CBGhia, can you change the map to a more simple road map, instead of the aerial view? If it's a bandwidth issue that might help speed downloads up.

Not that I am trying to be persuasive but Austin is so small your in and out before you know it. I find Austin roads to be very enjoyable. Some of the most "aware" cars I have seen with bicycles and motorcycles. The key is to avoid I35. Other than that mopac(loop1), Capital of Texas Highway and HW290 are big and smoooth as glass and way less traffic. But I find the most enjoyment riding through downtown area where "Austin" is better represented and the roads west of loop1 (mopac) and around the Lakeway area. Austin is split by a fault line so you get flat roads east of I35 and surprising, borderline breathe taking, rollys and ravines. Not being biased, but kind of, I have enjoyed Austin riding WAY more than Dallas or Houston. Absolutely NO-offense intended just my experiences. The hill country out west is undeniable. Did a short ride to Luchenbach through the hill country (avoided highways, stuck to Ranch Roads and Farm to Markets for the Harvest Classic and its pretty amazing.

I've never ridden Austin, but have enjoyed a fair amount of time there, and I must say, I completely agree. The scenery in and around there is at least a million times better than any other major city in TX.

Edit: plus if we have 5 days in Texas, might as well ride the hill country right? Some of the best backroads riding in the state from what I've heard

That is without a doubt. I can show you some pretty fun/pretty routes that would make question whether we were actually in TX.

I have a small crew of SOHC4 Hondas here who arent part of the forum but will most likely be rollin with. Plus maybe the lady on her twin.

Count me in if the route is anywhere near Santa Fe. Las Cruses is about 4-5 hour south of me. I would love to carry the "it" for NM, though. Will follow the post.

What route do you have in mind? I would suggest Ranch Road 1431 west from Round Rock.

Definitely back-roads from DFW to the Austin area.  I-35 to Austin is like being in inner-city traffic for 225 miles.  281 is a much better route.

I would avoid I35 there is absolutley no reason to do that to yourself. Its awful. I would head west to 281 once you get around Temple on into Austin on 29 out of Bertram. 279 into Leander head south to 620. Continue south to 71. Head on over to Loop 1 south to 1826. West to RR12 then south to wimberley and then out to Blanco and then Luckenbach so on and so forth. 1431 looks good on google maps, I have never been out that way. I dont know what the travel arragements are looking like but I have a house downtown close to Zilker Park with possibly a couple of spare beds.

Thanks! I find that with the map view, the route tends to blend in, due to the color. Can you easily change to more contrasting colors, like the route from OK? Solid reds, greens and blues might show up better than yellows and oranges on the map...

1431 looks good on google maps, I have never been out that way.

RR 1431 is a great road, I drive it regularly.  I know of campgrounds directly on Lake Travis that may be a great option.

Colors changed.  before, I had several routes on there, and I was running out of colors.
