Team West - CA, AZ, NV
« on: December 23, 2010, 08:12:04 AM »
OK it's time to get the SW route figured out. I'll be your team coordinator. So far we have from the "list":
(1) Grnrngr who wants a Pacific coast route of CA- OR - WA - hand off to 754 aka Frank on US97 at Osoyoos, WA on the border with BC.
(2) Me (myCB750K6) in Orange county. I think the coast from OC to SF would appeal to me.
(3) grumpy who wants Monterey up 1 to Santa Cruz then up 9 to Big Basin & through the redwoods to Skyline. Stop at Alice's then either:- Skyline north to 92 and down to Half Moon Bay then up the coast to San Francisco, the Great Highway, etc... or - down 84 back to 1 then up the coast to SF, etc...
(4) Mr Breeze - Modesto area (N or S) to Reno, NV etc (towards UT to follow the "plan")
(5) SocalEnduro - San Diego to LA
(6) OneWheelDrive - San Diego - SoCal
(7)  Maybe Shenanigans - AZ border to border - whole state or maybe 2??
[8]  SCondon - Sean - NorCal (SanFran area) and Oregon
(9)  Joe29 - Joe - LA to San Fran
(10) Scottly - Arizona
(11) Climbingaz - Shawn Swenson - AZ
(12) geminimotors - Mike T - Oakland, CA - mid coast to San Fran and beyond - flop house and garage facilities
(13) kslrr - Vegas to Orange County
(14) wick  ???? socal ???
(15) geminimotors Oakland, CA, and down for socal, bay area,  or norcal legs. We have a shop space, large gated lot, and guest
(16) domer will meet grumpy at alices for the ride to SF... still got a hotel for the folks making a long haul. but i will need dates and such to guarantee that...

(17) ofreen - the NV to UT leg for now. Need hand off to ofreen in NV

1/18/2011 update Denver's Chopper folks

(18)  Shelby Johnson - KZ1000 Denver's Chopper - Team CA, AZ, NV
(19) Keyelynn Johnson - kayjohn - CB750 Denver's Chopper - Team CA, AZ, NV
(20) Jim Davis - JD - CB750 Denver's Chopper - Team CA, AZ, NV
(21) Troy Hann - huricanhan - CB750 Denver's Chopper - Team CA, AZ, NV
(22) Mike Lipker - steroid - CB750 Denver's Chopper - Team CA, AZ, NV
(23) Ray Kundysek - CB750 Denver's Chopper - Team CA, AZ, NV
(24) Ken Scott - kscottHD - CB750 Denver's Chopper - Team CA, AZ, NV
(25) Jim Stephens - Chopper Jim - CB750 Denver's Chopper - Team CA, AZ, NV

(26) RAFster122s - David - Sierra Vista, AZ - NM/AZ border (Duncan) westward - Team CA & Team SW

It looks as though the route with gnome will come into So Cal somewhere between SD and LA. So the SD guys can maybe chime in here? Then a route to SF. I'll be on that one. Also routes coming down to SF from the north. Finally a route leaving CA heading east again back across the country with a hand-off to not sure who at this point.

Anyway that's what it looks like to me at this point. What do you think? Why don't you guys chime in on this thread rather than PM so everyone can see what you're thinking we can start to agree on some routes.

For those routes coming into and picking up from CA, can you note here who the coordinator is, the routes as you define them and some kind of time frame. If I don't hear from you guys, I'll PM you and point to this thread as this topic is now getting spread all over the place so maybe keeping everything here would be easier.

Myles

12/24/2010:
Added 9 through 15 at the top. Sorry Scottly, don't know how I missed you.
Also I'm adding wick in so-cal, and geminimotors but need route preferences. And you guys aren't on the "list" yet as far as I could tell. Jerry, can you confirm?

As far as the route map is concerned. That's the only one I've seen as well. It shows a hand-off coming into SD from AZ looks like down the 15 and then a route to SF maybe up the coast and then a hand-off east to NV.

So our number just jumped from 8 to 15 so we can perhaps try to define some routes withing our region now.
Jerry, with so many posts and PMs going around, can you help me track the hand-offs.

1/18/2011 update

Just trying to summarize here... up to 26 now

Still not clear who and when team 3 will get to AZ but scotty and kslrr and Climbingaz have proposed a couple of routes in AZ heading to CA. kslrr, can you put those on your map with your names as well. Looks like Kingman to CA on route 40. Is that correct? So the lower portions of AZ through 8 or 10 do not seem to be adopted yet.

Second ofreen is proposing routes through NV from Reno towards UT across 50, ( from Tahoe?). Maybe we can get that on the map too.

It's not clear how the 8-10 guys riding SOHC4 Denver's Choppers out of a shop close to Vegas would fit into one of these routes as they are on 15. Let's put them on the map anyway. OK kslrr?

Third grumpy and domer are defining routes from the Monterey area to SF.

mrbreeze is proposing the route from SF to Reno or portions therein/

Let's put geminimotors in Oakland, CA on the map. He's in for a leg into or out of the Bay Area. He has shop space, secure parking, as well as guest room, couches, and a big bbq if a posse needs to rest, relax or repair. Cheer, -Mike Taylor geminimotors@gmail.com

OK I think that's the routes proposed. We still have huge gaps from AZ to San Diego.

Wick in socal - what's up?

Joe29 - Joe - LA to San Fran - what route? Need to get to Monterey to meet grumpy and domer

SCondon - Sean - NorCal (SanFran area) and Oregon  - We don't ave a plan north of SF if the route heads through Sacramento towards Reno!!

OneWheelDrive - San Diego - SoCal - slabbing it? I don't see an alternative unless the inland empire, palamar and the mountains - wadayathink?

Daniel, kslrr, has created these six rout maps. I'll post them at the end of the thread too and update them there. Looks like three hand-ff points so far and two events.

My route is just a suggestion.

I figured the SoCal crew would be coming up 1 rather than 101/5/99. But Running straight up the coast misses Sequoia, King's Canyon, Yosemite, etc. so ?
And a coastal route misses the Central Valley SOHC crew.

So Maybe from SoCal you could swing out to Sequoia then up 99, over 152 to Gilroy.
Or up 99 to Fresno then up 41 to Yosemite and back down to Merced then east via 152.

Then from Gilroy we can head toward the coast: Say swing down to Monterey and up 1 as above?

I guess it all depends on what points on the map we need to hit. I'm guessing from the Bay Area we'll need to swing out to Sac and then up to Tahoe and NV?

Then
- Back down to like Napa and up north?
Or
- Down to Grass Valley, Yuba City, Chico, and up to Redding ?

Then up to OR ?

Or does the route need to go out through NV and head to UT?

Unfortunately in this case the answer is yes. Team Central Rockies needs to get a handoff near UT and head east. I'm hoping we can get a Coordinator on board for PNW and start planning up there. Seems to be quite a few interested riders there so I'm hoping they can do an extended ride too.

I might be able to jump in with Shenanigans for the AZ portion.  Hope to have my CB completely roadworthy and legal within a month.

OK. That's cool.

But then how do the PNW guys figure in?

Is there a "master route" posted someplace that I haven't found?

Much as I'd like too, I can't commit to the SoCal end..I am committed to the PNW leg, and might be able to do some NoCal depending on what you guys decide...Like I said, I don't think there are many better places to ride than in the Sierras or the north coast. but then again...there are a buncha places I haven't been yet, northern Idaho being one of them...

Looks like socal to the bay area is covered. I'm in Oakland and I'd be in for the bay area north or west leg. If theres a posse passing through, we have shop space, secure parking,  plenty of sofa, and a giant bbq!

grumpy,
I like your route suggestion. In lieu of others input I think it's a great idea. I believe the route currently goes toward NV from the bay area but there's no one signed up there yet so it's still up in the air and UT is still an option in my opinion. Also there's no one north of SF yet either.

So right now we have three major routes
(1) The one that comes down the 15 from AZ and through AZ. Need more details here.
(2) The one that goes north to the bay area. Grumpy's sounds good to me.
(3) The one that leaves CA somehow.

If we can work out the timing, I can probably do the Nevada to Utah portion.  Advance notice and sticking to an agreed upon schedule is important, since I still have to work for a living, dang it.

Cool.
Would one of the SF/North Bay guys be willing to finalize the route up thru that area?
We also need to confirm the route heading east. I don't really know any of those roads...

I was thinking we prolly should go across the Golden Gate. At least for a picture with the mascot...

Sweet!! I may have to meet you then meet you finally but that all depends on my ride. I think I'd say F-n-A  :D I can be more flexible with my time and work around other riders. No promises yet. I GOTTA get my butt to the garage and get the engine together! then finish the bike. I called the Harley dealer today to check on my scratched up Fat Boy. I got to discussing my 750/900F with the service manager and he said he'd dyno it for me when it's ready but I'd have to make the carb adjustments. Excellent. No other dyno around. I gotta get that $7xxxpensive engine tuned in right or I won't take it on the road. Way too much serious money to jack it up.

Hope it works out.  My preliminary plan is to meet up with the CA group where ever they decide to rendezvous, head across Nevada to meet up with your group.  Then meander back home and hang loose until the relay gets to Idaho.  I'm flexible, too, just waiting to see who comes on board and what they want to do.

How about a hand-off from AZ in Oatman? Old route 66, not far from Vegas, and there are couple of routes through AZ to there with little interstate miles.

Hand off in Oatman would be pretty cool.  Just my 2 cents, but we could then head to Flagstaff, down to Payson, over to Show Low, then to Eagar and Alpine and take the 181 down to Clifton, then hand off in Duncan which is on the border with New Mexico.

I've been getting a little confused myself. As I understand it, once into CA, the route heads up the west coast, and then heads back east into northern NV.
