mick there will be a complete exhaust for this bike

I'm just a little worried about the short length of the headers, the length is critical for the engine to perform properly..

Longer primaries are better for high end power and shorter are for torque {someone correct me if i have these backwards} but the long and short headers aren't that extreme.....worth looking into.... Not knocking it, just trying to be informative, there's a fair bit of science in making pipes....

I'm almost certain you have that backwards.

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

From a site about header design:

Quote
P=(850xED/RPM) - 3

Here's the explanation: P= primary tube length
ED= 180 + the number of degrees the exhaust valve opens before bottom dead center
RPM = the rpm you want to tune for.

So to tune for a lower RPM, you want a longer primary.

Oh god, don't.

Take it from someone who's had some obnoxiously loud machines - it's fun at first but in short order it starts to just suck.  Idling through a parking garage setting off people's car alarms makes you pretty self-conscious.  You always run the risk of getting pulled over for a fix-it-ticket, and you start avoiding going WFO because it attracts so much attention.

A bike with some decent baffling/silencing is just a lot easier to live with and more fun to ride than something with open pipes.

Of course, now and then I do still miss the sound of my old ported N/A RX-7 w/ 3" exhaust at WFO under an overpass.  :D

lucky for me there is no noise restriction for bikes in tennessee....but it is going to need baffling of some kind :-\

Yeah, thanks for the correction, i was looking at a bike with extremely long primary pipes and wasn't too sure. {too lazy to google ;D}
If thats the case wouldn't really short headers give nothing down low.? I know a couple of guys found that the shorter headers backfired and popped a lot..?

Very nice.  I think that the 520 should look awesome on the 550 - I'm planning to do the same.

That bolt kit looks nice also.  Should dress up the engine very nicely.  :)

looks good man. mono shock looks cool. Im building a 550 with a mono shock an my first attempt looks like yours also an Mine didnt hold the load either, but all you need to do is bring support futher back to the axle bolt an mount the shock to the support rather then the swingarm itself,

Is the bolt kit stainless? You may want to use a dab of anti-sieze when you install.
