Brake piston

Got a queston about brake pistons.Can anyone see a problem with making a piston out of aluminum?Have gotten several calipers from a salvage yard but all the pistons are bad. Dannie

Brembo changed from chrome plated steel to aluminium pistons about 1982, but they coat them with some process to prevent corrosion. I have a Brembo kit here and it looks good with the dual piston calipers.
Brembo also have a rubber skirt seal to prevent moisture and dust getting in between the caliper body and the piston
I would prefer stainless steel rather than Aluminium, mainly from a corrosion point of view. There are usually a few on eBay

If you have a local plating house that does anodizing, they will hold up OK.{made some}
    if you have them "hardcoated" it will add a little to the diameter.
     so be aware of that, when you make them.

Alloy in Alloy NOT a good idea due to corrosion
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

I bought a phenolic one.  It's machined a bit long so as to eliminate the need for the nylon washer between the piston & brake pad.  I'll try to dig up the guy who's selling them.

I made replacements for my cb650 Alum + hardcote, changed pads for the
 2nd time in {5yrs.} dissassembled and cleaned calipers, they look like they were
    installed yesterday.We have hardcote done on gage tooling assemblies,
      and it will even withstand salts, and mild acids,tech has come a loooong way..
