1977 CB400F Value?
« on: March 27, 2006, 05:38:15 AM »
I have a fully restored, stock Honda CB400F that I want to sell. It looks and runs sweet but it is time to reduce the number of registered vehicles in the garage. It is near perfect (minor blem on tank) and has many new parts and chrome. I'm the original owner with documentation... and am wondering what it might be worth ($3K-5K?) Any ideas where I can look or get that information?

Where are you located?  US or UK?

To me, the 1977 US 400Fs are not as desirable as the '75 and '76 bikes since they are a bit "watered down" as far as the "SuperSport" image goes.  My favorites are the '76 models since they had some improvements over the '75 models.  The UK had essentially the same bikes throughout the run.

Not totally sure on value, but closer to three is my guess.

The best way of pricing anything nowadays is eBay.  You will find eveything from concourse to basket case - just select "Completed Auctions" and see what people are prepared to pay.

I don't frequent eBay.com much but in the UK there are always half a dozen or so 400/4s for sale at any one time.

Depends on area for one thing.  The Bay Area around San Francisco will bring the highest prices, I think. I don't think yellow tanks get as much as blue or red... I'd say between $4 and $5K with some patience.  The guy who runs Brad's Bikes usually has a bit of a grasp as far as value, too.

Uncle Earnie, I've been away. How might I get in touch with the guy from Brad's Bikes?

Very clean CB400F are going for low prices.  If you get more than 3500 I will be surprisied, but I've not seen your bike.  I saw a cherry, original, low milage piece 75 in the south bay go for 2,500 reently.  I think pricing have declined in the past few years.  Honda built a boat load of these so supply is always somewhat strong.

From what I understand the 77 was actually quite rare as far as production is concerned. The total run from 75-77 was just over 100,000, but the 1977 cb400f only saw a production level of just over 5,000. I would say that makes them a little more valuable. 6 speed transmissions were a bit of a rarity for the time period as well. Just my two cents. (which might only be worth a penny in today's economy.)

According to NADA, the bike worth $2700 US bucks in excellent condition.  Just a reference...

Sadly, we will never know whether MikeHedges had luck or not.

This thread is four years old and he has since "unregistered"

Some of the forums I'm on,  display a warning if you are about to post to an old thread.

I prefer it this way ;)
